Life, two weeks after losing my dad

Grief has no roadmap — I don’t have the answers, but I’m meeting myself where I am, with compassion, acceptance and no pressure for perfection.

Here’s what life looks like right now:

💻 Work
Easing back in with a few hours a day, gently building towards full hours in the coming weeks. Still doing client appointments and check ins - my client work is important to me.

🏋️‍♀️ Gym
3 sessions completed (instead of 6)
45-minute workouts (instead of 60+ mins)
Training at around 70 % effort — and that’s enough.

🚶‍♀️ Movement
Naturally reaching 8–10k steps most days, instead of pushing past 10k.

💧 Hydration
Still keeping to 3L daily — my baseline for feeling good.

🥗 Food
3 balanced, wholefood meals a day.
Plus a few extra snacks of cookies and chocolates — mindfully enjoyed, with no guilt, no emotional eating.

😴 Sleep
Sleeping 10pm–6am with a solid routine, but still feeling the fatigued. Taking short 20–30 min power naps when needed in the day

🧠 Mental Health
Started therapy this week, and leaning into breathwork and meditation.

🍷 Alcohol
NONE. Choosing to avoid it completely — Herbal teas and water is exactly what I need.

I’m aiming for staying present, grounded and supporting myself.

If you’re navigating grief too, be gentle with yourself. Healing isn’t linear — and it doesn’t have to be done alone. I am taking every bit of support I can get 💪🙏

When you start to lose weight you expect a perfect decline downwards each week.

This is what reality looks like...

This is never giving up even when scales went up...

This is the reality of holidays and Christmas and...

This is constant work on the relationship with food and not just 'a diet to lose weight '

This is 173 lbs down to 145lbs and still going...

Here is your reminder....

Don't give up , just because the scales didn't drop 4-5lbs every week. Keep going and trust the process

3 habits that helped me AVOID emotional eating - during stress and grief

This isn't about being strong or perfect during stress and grief but when you have habits that support you even hard weeks become manageable.

This is the time others will say 'Just drink the wine to get through...just eat the chocolate who cares'. The most unhelpful advice ever.

But heres the important thing to remember.

Excessive food and alcohol will NOT make you feel better. It WON'T help and it won't solve the problem.

Today, we bid farewell to a true legend, my father.

The day was filled with beauty and peace, just as he had wanted.

At the Alice Street Islamic Centre, many came to pay their respects. After prayers we travelled to the cemetery for the burial. Afterwards we gathered at the mosque for a simple yet comforting meal of curry and rice with our loved ones.

We appreciate everyone who came to honour Dad and offer their support. I could see his kindness and generosity had a profound impact on many lives. I am so grateful to all those that helped with the day. It was absolutely beautiful.

I know it is upsetting to those who learnt of his illness only after his passing. He asked for privacy during a difficult time in his life and we honoured his wishes until the very end. Thank you for being respectful of those wishes.

Dad found peace today. Our gratitude goes out to all who helped and attended.
