Behavior is communication:

1. Listen.
2. See the person instead of the problem.
3. Listen some more.
4. Validate the feelings. (i.e. “That sounds hard.” “I can see how frustrating that would be.” “It hurts when someone doesn’t understand us.”)
4. Ask questions. (i.e. “How can I help?” “What do you need right now?” “Do you have any ideas about how to solve this problem?”)
5. Listen for the need driving the behavior.
6. Work together to meet the need.
7. Reconnect and repair as needed.
8. Guide the behavior.(“Now that you’re feeling better, let’s talk about better ways to handle hard things in the future. Do you have any ideas?”)

…in that order.

That is the heart and soul of working with instead of against our children.💞

At Talk In The Bay, our team provides a highly professional and flexible service offering psychotherapy, counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy and schema therapy to meet the needs of our clients. Our services are provided by experienced therapists and have been since 2008. In providing this service we aim to contribute towards the improved well-being of all people living in Wales.

During the lockdown period we are offering online sessions so that we can stay connected with you. Some of our services include: Counselling and Psychotherapy for Anxiety, Depression, Relationship Difficulties, and Workplace Stress; and Bereavement for Individuals, Young People and Couples.
