JUST YOGA
That’s what we do and we do it really really well.
No fussy stuff,
No performing,
No promises that we will ‘release your trauma’ ‘heal you’ ‘fix you’ no ‘mindless following’
No crazy nonsense is offered in our studio.
What do we do?
We share yoga with you in a way that allows you to better understand your body. That encourages you to be present, to notice and to feel. That hopefully helps you find a better balance within mind and body.
We hopefully make it easier for you to take your yoga off your mat so that it subtly shows up and supports you through your day to day life. In your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Hopefully you’ll learn how to become a little stronger , a little more mobile, a little more calm… everyone is different so everyone gets different benefits
It all happens in a supportive, welcoming environment.
If you’d like to learn a little more about what we do and find the class that would best suit you, then please reach out .

Simplicity, let’s get back to it.
Simple. Straightforward. Attentive.
Life can be busy, maybe even chaotic, the more we try to cram in, the more we try to do, the less focused we may become on each task. Even within the wellness world it often feels like we need more .. to be entertained, to be distracted, to be performed to. It’s not enough to simply do yoga, it’s not enough for you to have and be present with your own experience, it’s got to have a hook, an add on,a distraction, something trendy or different, it’s got to be more. (These are just thoughts and if you love these things that’s absolutely ok)
Take for example a Soundbath on the Beach. The beach is literally natures ultimate sound bath, to lay back, to just listen is such an experience; do we need to add to that? For me it’s like going to the concert of a performer you love but wearing earphones and listening to cover versions of the songs you so love.
Puppy/Goat Yoga, you’re not doing yoga or fully enjoying the puppies. Maybe do some yoga then go cuddle some puppies, enjoy both things fully but separately.
Yoga with weights. You’re not getting to fully focus on the yoga and in terms of weights, what you’re doing with them, is it really going to create any significant strength benefits.. enjoy your yoga, then enjoy doing weights.
We are all different and we can all absolutely enjoy different things and that’s great, and we can all have different opinions and that too is perfect . Though it can be good at times to pause and notice: is what I’m doing creating more connection for me or is it creating a little more chaos and disconnection? Why does it always have to be more , why might we struggle so much with a simple approach, what is it that we need to be distracted from, what is it that we are not able to just sit with?

Slow Down,
Slow Down and notice,
Slow Down and feel,
Slow Down and see, really see,
Slow Down to be present,
How often do you take time to truly be present,
To give one task your attention,
To give one person your full attention ,
To give yourself your full attention?
How much better might it feel if you allowed yourself to slow down a little
Because of my injury I’ve had to slow my walking and movement right down, due to slowing down and not being able to move as quickly I’ve had more time to notice things.. during our recent retreat I slowed right down and I saw and noticed do much more .. this was just after rainfall and I thought this was stunning

Yoga… it’s sooo much more than moving and stretching.
It’s easy to think it’s all about the movement, and that’s part of it but it’s a very small part.
Yoga is not just ‘done’ on a mat during your class; it stays with you throughout every part of the day. The more you practice the more it just ‘is’ part of you.
I’ve not been in the studio for over two weeks (I have a torn meniscus aka very sore leg) so I haven’t been able to do the same physical practice.
Yoga has still massively been part of me and part of my everyday and recovery . how?
Breathwork (pranayama) from the moment the injury occurred a connection to my breath helped me stay calm and to manage my pain. It’s helped me in the same way everyday since.
Through every part of the day this connection to breath and body helps me stay in a calm place. It allows my body to better heal. It stops me from worrying or catastrophising, it stops me wandering through what it’s and keeps me grounded in the present moment.
I use mantra (phrases repeated to myself) to remind my mind and body that I am safe and strong, I choose mantra that supports healing in my body.
Through my yoga practice my body is strong and mobile, this has hugely helped with my recovery and really allowed me to focus on my recovery.
Yoga
Have a read of the Yamas and Niyamas (all things we practice and learn in yoga and you’ll see that these principles have become part of everyday .

Which class?
It’s hard to fully describe each of the classes and I’ll always say that the best thing is to just come along and try the class to see how it feels for you.
But here is a rough guide and a little intro about the main classes we offer at the studio.
🟣 GENTLE/BEGIN : moves super slow. Great for those just starting their yoga journey.
🟣 GROUNDED: Our most popular class. Suitable from beginner to experienced. A bit of everything but moves at a steady pace. A bit of strength, flexibility, breath focus and relaxation. The true all rounder.
🟣 YIN: Long slow holds. Brings challenge in a way you wouldn’t expect, the challenge of stillness, truly connecting with your own body and feeling what needs to be felt.
🟣 YOGACORE: A class focused on all things posture and core. Lots of opportunities to enjoy a strong practice and our teachers will support you on finding the right level for you
🟣 Flow: Move with your breath, get a little sweaty, work a little (or a lot). A dynamic practice
Always here for any guidance you might need about which class to try , please reach out if you need a bit of help.

Energy,
It’s everywhere & in everything,
We are energy,
Every interaction we have we give our energy to others and receive some energy from them.
It’s a constant give and take.
It can be good to pause and notice where and what takes most of your energy? What things or people in your life deplete or even steal your energy?
What and who fills it right back up?
How’s your battery read at the moment, does it need topped up a little? How could you make that happen?

The Next Chapter
We are not closing down, The Yogaloft is a huge part of our community and is now in its 10th Year. We’ve survived and thrived through so much, the Yogaloft means the world to me and to all those who are part of our community. It supports too many to ever just close.
Is change coming…. It is (members will receive updates in our loft community group, our socials and via our newsletter)
But that change is not to close, that change is not to be less active in the community, that change is not to offer less yoga.
This next chapter brings deeper connections , more choice, more yoga & movement experiences. More wellness opportunities. And allows us to support those who have previously not been able to access our studios.
My dream has always been to create a Wellness Hub. To create a space that is accessible to all and helps make it possible for as many people as possible to access support for their mental health, physical and emotional wellbeing. I truly hope that we are now moving closer to fulfilling that dream.
There is much to do and plan and organise.. but I can assure you that while the Yogaloft may change adapt and grow we won’t close and everything we do will be for our community.
It certainly wasn’t my intention to share anything this early in the process, but I don’t want anyone to think that we are closing (you guys should defo know me better than that). As always I’m here and available and more than happy to answer any questions. Reach out and let’s have a chat.

Today, connect to your breath a little more,
Notice it, follow it, let it be an anchor.
Connection to and awareness of breath is so important. When the mind is busy, when we bounce from thought to thought, story to story it can make us feel anxious and unsure, becoming aware of our breath often helps to slow down that busy mind, like an anchor it holds us a little more steady.
Try breathing light, low and slow. Breathe is calm and steady, it reaches low into the body and gently sweeps out to every little bit of our rib cage, it doesn’t need to be forced and it doesn’t need to be rushed, breathe light , slow and slow . When you. Find yourself getting frustrated, overwhelmed or unsure, pause and breathe .

Yoga Works Through Practice
There are no quick fixes, no shortcuts, it takes time (but probably not as much as you think)
Modern life seems to encourage us to seek a quick fix, to find someone who will ‘fix them’, or encourages us to blindly follow. Well, yoga takes a bit of work, it takes dedication, it’s called a practice for a reason, it’s you choosing to help and take care of yourself.
If you’ve a really good yoga teacher they will support and guide you but they will always make sure that you know it’s you who is doing it, you who is taking control of their own health and wellbeing. They won’t make claims about fixing you or healing you they’ll not want you to blindly follow they’ll encourage you to practice for you and in your own way.
Yoga can support us in so many ways, but it takes a little time for us to become aware of those benefits. Not just the physical ones but the emotional ones, the mental health ones.
Practicing yoga doesn’t mean we won’t ever have an ache or not ever have a challenging day or even miss a nights sleep, but it better equips us to deal with these things, it gives us these subtle but strong tools to help us cope a little better.
People don’t ’do yoga to you’ you practice, you do it, it’s all you.
