Toby is still looking for a new home. Currently living on the Isle of Mull and would prefer to remain here.
He’s an 8 year old neutered black and white cat.

**WARNING - SAD OUTCOME**

KEEP OIL COVERED, PUT A LID ON IT!!

We love to bring you heartwarming stories of cute little patients whose journey to health and back to the wild makes all our hearts swell with joy. It's what makes this work so worthwhile.

There are plenty of those - this is NOT one of them.

Patient intake number 100 for May was named by me as soon as I opened the box. He's AWE, keeping our Loch naming theme going.

I saw the extent of his oiling, the fumes immediately made my eyes sting, his skin under the matted, slick feathers was bright red from the irritants. It was in his ears, his beak, and lined his throat. He was cold. Completely unable to control his shivering.

I wrapped him in a warm towel, fed him some tasty morsels of food so that his last moments were a litle more enjoyable, and put him to sleep to guarantee not one more minute of misery.

I hate this part of the job, but I know what a privilege it is to be able to end suffering.

He is not our first unsaveable oiled bird - when draining oil, working on engines, decanting fuel, moving old cooking oil, pouring antifreeze - STICK A LID ON IT AND MOP UP SPILLS IMMEDIATELY.

For AWE's sake 💚

Just sharing part of a post from the Maritime and Costal Agency. Definitely worth checking it out for the answers and advice….
Strandings happen in the UK between 20-50 times a year, involving whales, dolphins and porpoises – types of aquatic mammals collectively known as cetaceans.

Because it’s relatively unusual, it can draw a crowd of concerned people who naturally want any stranded marine animals to survive and might wonder how decisions are taken.

Rescue is always the first aim but it’s not straightforward to safely return to the water a frightened creature that’s out of its element and – in the biggest cases – can weigh around 50 tonnes.

With help from HM Coastguard and cetacean experts from British Divers Marine Life Rescue, here are some answers about what happens next and why.
