We’re supporting

Week with !

This year’s theme is “this is my place” all about helping children feel a true sense of belonging.

When young people feel they belong, they feel safer, more confident, and more empowered to make a real difference in their world.

If you’re looking for simple ways to support your child’s mental health and wellbeing, the Health for Kids website has pulled together a hub with lots of advice:

❄️ Practice Update – Today ❄️

Due to adverse weather conditions, we are operating with reduced staff today. We also have a leak in the waiting room, which means part of the area has been temporarily closed.

For those attending the practice today, please be aware that the council car park behind the building is covered in snow and is extremely slippery. Where possible, we recommend walking to the practice and avoiding parking in this area.

Thank you for your understanding and please take extra care when travelling. Stay safe ❄️

Blood Test Appointments

Blood test appointments run from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Monday to Friday, offering approximately 30 appointments per day.

Why only until 10:30?
This is because blood samples are collected by Derby Hospital Laboratory between 10:45 and 11:00 a.m.
We have requested a later or afternoon collection time on multiple occasions, but unfortunately, this has been refused.

We do take blood samples from patients in the afternoon, but only as part of their long-term condition reviews. This is possible because some blood samples can be stored overnight if processed and stored correctly. We use a machine called a centrifuge to enable this.
However, due to the additional processing time and storage limitations, afternoon appointments are not available for routine blood tests.

Alternative Sites
Additional sites are available for you to visit. The best way to find and book an appointment is via Swiftqueue:
https://www.swiftqueue.co.uk/uhdb.php

Please note that, as we are connected to Derby Hospitals Laboratory, you will need to find a suitable site in South Derbyshire. This ensures your blood form is compatible and your sample is sent to the correct laboratory.
If you attend another location, they may not be able to use your form, and we may not receive your results.

We’ve been made aware that some patients have received a message from North West Leicestershire PCN containing a booking link.

✅ Please note: The message is genuine, but unfortunately it was sent without the full explanation of what it was for.

The PCN has confirmed there was an issue where some texts were sent without the initial message. The link you received is for booking a COVID-19 vaccination appointment.

💉 COVID-19 Vaccinations:
Please remember that Castle Donington Surgery is not currently providing COVID vaccinations on site.

You can book your vaccination in two ways:
1. Through the National Booking System — for appointments at Evan’s Pharmacy or other convenient local sites.
2. By using the booking link provided by the PCN, which allows you to book at another local practice.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
