We pour our hearts into planning our special day šŸ’ šŸ‘°ā€ā™€ļø ( I know that I did, in fact it took two years to plan my wedding day).

I loved planning my wedding though, every little detail was considered, I even had ā€œa silver sixpence in her shoeā€ engraved on the bottom of my shoes that instantly wore off after about 10 steps outsidešŸ«£šŸ˜‚.

Yet, when it comes to another special day, the day we birth a tiny human being we don’t seem to plan half as much and I’ve always wondered why. Surely, giving Birth deserves that same love and intention as a wedding does? I would argue it requires more prep.

We get a whole 9 months ish to prepare for giving birth to our child but we don’t give it the same amount of attention.

We absolutely can though, there is so much to learn and understand when it comes to preparing for labour, how to work with your body, how to support contractions, how to get your mind in a good space, how to give work with your baby, just to name a few.

Please, invest in your birth prep because it is more than ā€œjustā€ a day.

Head over to my blog as a starting point, I share so much valuable birth prep over there.

šŸŽƒ IT’S LIKE SH*TTING A WATERMELON / PUMPKINšŸŽƒ
How many times have you heard a horrific reference of what birth is like?
Don’t get me wrong, birth is hard and bloody intense and there may be a point during the ring of fire that your baby’s head feels huge but remember this, your body is designed to give birth to a baby in the following ways:

šŸŽƒ You produce wonderful pain killing hormones to assist you during labour, you can actively work on building these in your system in the early stages of labour too, this wouldn’t happen if you sh*t a pumpkin.

šŸŽƒ The cervix thins, ripens, softens and ā€œopensā€ to be the perfect size to get your baby out. Your bum wouldn’t do this to allow a pumpkin out.

šŸŽƒ The plates of your baby’s skull can actually cross over each other so that the skull can mould to the correct shape to be born. It’s also not as hard or rigid as a pumpkin.

šŸŽƒ Simply put, we are not designed to poo a pumpkin or watermelon but we are designed to birth a baby.

That doesn’t mean it will be easy but the more you learn about birth, the more prepared and confident you will feel. The more confident and prepared you are, the more relaxed you can be during the birth of your baby which will help you massively, working with your body rather than against it.
Head to my website to read some of my clients positive birth stories (link in my bio). Fill your mind with confidence and whilst you are there take a look at some of my tips over on the birth and baby blog.

Imagine this 🚲:

You’re riding up a steep hill on a bike, it has no gears and it’s super windy.

You know how to ride the bike but it’s really hard, your legs are burning and it feels like you’re peddling against nothing.

You’re trying your best but you’re forcing your body to work harder than it needs to, every push feels exhausting.

So next time, you take a bike with gears, you grab a helmet, a rain coat, a bottle of water and suddenly the climb becomes smoother, more manageable.

You’re still doing the work but it flows, and you’re not fighting against yourself.

That’s what hypnobirthing does during labour.

Labour is the hill. You still have to ride it.
But hypnobirthing teaches you how to shift your mental and physical gears using breathing, relaxation, and mindset so you move with your body, not against it.

You’re still progressing. You’re still strong. But it doesn’t have to feel like an uphill battle.

Comment ā€œblogā€ and I will send you all of my top tips for a more confident birth.

For many years, long before the word hypnobirthing existed, our grandparents (and their parents before them) were already practicing the same principles that we have in hypnobirthing. 🌿

They used deep breathing, grunting, groaning, meditation, home births, affirmations, up right births, support from others in the community and trust in the body’s ability to birth. These tools helped them stay calm, reduce fear, and work with their bodies instead of against them.

Today we call it hypnobirthing, of course there’s added knowledge in there from the modernised world, we have learnt lots about birth since then but we cannot dismiss some of the wonderful techniques our great grandparents used that still benefit us today, even if we have forgotten about many of them.

✨ Hypnobirthing isn’t new. It’s remembering what we’ve always known. ✨

Help your baby to help you during labour.

Your baby will be working hard to be born, they twist and turn, tuck their chins in, navigate their way through the birth canal and you can support them by using hypnobirthing techniques.

All of the techniques that you learn on a hypnobirthing course will support you and your baby and let’s not forget your birth partner too.

You can all work together as a team, utilising all that you learnt on your hypnobirthing course.

Comment ā€œbabyā€ and I will send you my ā€œwhat every Mum needs to know about birthā€ episode for you to watch or listen to.

I’m leant over the bed, stark naked, having a contraction in the birth centre at Pinderfields hospital back in 2018…

A little pigeon flew through the open window in the room, flapped its wings for a bit and then flew back out 🐦.

I asked my husband if he remembered it happening the next day and commented on how random it was. He very calmly said ā€œthat didn’t happen Hannahā€.

I was high, I know I was but I didn’t have any pain relief.

What I do know is that I worked really hard on building feel good hormones in my system before I even went into labour and then during labour too.

Oxytocin and endorphins (our body’s own natural hormones) can make us feel euphoric if we have enough of them in our system.

This is exactly what I believe happened, I was feeling high because of these hormones.

These hormones are so powerful, even more so if you know how to hack them and flood your system with them.

There are so many ways to increase them in your system, follow me as I’ll be sharing about them really soon.

I’m covered in oil, balancing on 1 foot at 34 weeks pregnant, trying to get my hand round my huge belly to massage my perineum and it’s just not happening. I’m sweating, huffing and puffing and fed up.

So I sack it off and I do other things instead to try and reduce my chances of tearing during labour.

There’s huge pressure on women to do perineal massage but honestly, doing this alone and forgetting all the other things really isn’t going to help.

You can massage your perineum till the cows come home but if you don’t consider all the other ways to minimise your chances of tearing them then it’s a bit pointless.

Comment ā€œtearā€ and I’ll send you the link to read the full blog.

I tried all 10 of these things during labour!

Hit SAVE on this one just in case you need it.

QUESTIONS TO ASK IF YOU ARE HAVING GROWTH SCANS

Whilst a 15% or more inaccuracy from growth scans during pregnancy doesn’t sound like much, actually it can be pretty big in terms of potential weight of your baby.

Growth scans can also have an impact on the type of birth that you might have. Those who have suspected large babies are often offered an induction but we know that induction isn’t risk free.

It’s always good to ask plenty of questions (swipe to see a few).

Information such as this is included in all of my courses, it’s important to have the knowledge of birth, as well as all of the coping techniques that I teach too.

To find out more about my courses, head to my website or get in touch and we can have a chat. My next group course is running from home in Wakefield in October, there’s just 3 spaces left.

I won šŸ™Œ šŸ†

I can’t believe it, I won pregnancy care specialist of the year from the Yorkshire Prestige Awards.

I really wasn’t expecting this at all, especially since I’ve basically been hibernating on my socials whilst I look after both kids for 6 weeks.

I’m so chuffed though, this really does mean a lot, I’ve been teaching hypnobirthing now for almost 7 years and I’m just as passionate about birth now as I was back then.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

As always, my blog has all the best bits if you are currently expecting a baby.
