Using essential oils in labour? 🌿 Let’s talk about the mistakes many women don’t realise they’re making and how to avoid them.

I hear so many women using essential oils wrong during labour but they can be so powerful, never underestimate the difference they can make to your birth.

Here are 5 things that you might want to consider before using oils.

Did you use essential oils for birth? Did they help?

To this day, 2 years later, the smell of lavender, rose and frankincense combined still makes me feel all fuzzy inside.

Come join me on a hypnobirthing course, whether you live locally or anywhere in the world, I can support you.

Send me a DM for a chat or head to my website to find out more.

Please make sure you use essential oils safely and get in touch with an aromatherapist if you need any help.

Perineal massage is all well and good but…

There is some evidence that it helps to minimise the chance of a severe tear but don’t make the mistake of giving the massage your all but then forgetting to do these simple but effective things during labour, I’ve listed 5 here and there’s another 5 to consider over on my blog, the link to read why I didn’t do perineal massage in either of my labours is in my bio:

🤰 Stay active (sway, pace, walk, dance). Keep the perineal tissue moving.

💧 Use water (either a pool, shower, bath, hot compress)

🧘🏼‍♀️ Breathe - so simple but it helps to keep your body relaxed

🚶🏼‍♀️Consider upright positions if possible and it feels right for you

🥤 Drink water and stay hydrated

There’s so many other things you can consider too, I’ve popped them all down in my blog (link in bio)

Let me know your thoughts on perineal massage in the comments, did you do it? Did it help?

We pour our hearts into planning our special day 💍 👰‍♀️ ( I know that I did, in fact it took two years to plan my wedding day).

I loved planning my wedding though, every little detail was considered, I even had “a silver sixpence in her shoe” engraved on the bottom of my shoes that instantly wore off after about 10 steps outside🫣😂.

Yet, when it comes to another special day, the day we birth a tiny human being we don’t seem to plan half as much and I’ve always wondered why. Surely, giving Birth deserves that same love and intention as a wedding does? I would argue it requires more prep.

We get a whole 9 months ish to prepare for giving birth to our child but we don’t give it the same amount of attention.

We absolutely can though, there is so much to learn and understand when it comes to preparing for labour, how to work with your body, how to support contractions, how to get your mind in a good space, how to give work with your baby, just to name a few.

Please, invest in your birth prep because it is more than “just” a day.

Head over to my blog as a starting point, I share so much valuable birth prep over there.

🎃 IT’S LIKE SH*TTING A WATERMELON / PUMPKIN🎃
How many times have you heard a horrific reference of what birth is like?
Don’t get me wrong, birth is hard and bloody intense and there may be a point during the ring of fire that your baby’s head feels huge but remember this, your body is designed to give birth to a baby in the following ways:

🎃 You produce wonderful pain killing hormones to assist you during labour, you can actively work on building these in your system in the early stages of labour too, this wouldn’t happen if you sh*t a pumpkin.

🎃 The cervix thins, ripens, softens and “opens” to be the perfect size to get your baby out. Your bum wouldn’t do this to allow a pumpkin out.

🎃 The plates of your baby’s skull can actually cross over each other so that the skull can mould to the correct shape to be born. It’s also not as hard or rigid as a pumpkin.

🎃 Simply put, we are not designed to poo a pumpkin or watermelon but we are designed to birth a baby.

That doesn’t mean it will be easy but the more you learn about birth, the more prepared and confident you will feel. The more confident and prepared you are, the more relaxed you can be during the birth of your baby which will help you massively, working with your body rather than against it.
Head to my website to read some of my clients positive birth stories (link in my bio). Fill your mind with confidence and whilst you are there take a look at some of my tips over on the birth and baby blog.

Imagine this 🚲:

You’re riding up a steep hill on a bike, it has no gears and it’s super windy.

You know how to ride the bike but it’s really hard, your legs are burning and it feels like you’re peddling against nothing.

You’re trying your best but you’re forcing your body to work harder than it needs to, every push feels exhausting.

So next time, you take a bike with gears, you grab a helmet, a rain coat, a bottle of water and suddenly the climb becomes smoother, more manageable.

You’re still doing the work but it flows, and you’re not fighting against yourself.

That’s what hypnobirthing does during labour.

Labour is the hill. You still have to ride it.
But hypnobirthing teaches you how to shift your mental and physical gears using breathing, relaxation, and mindset so you move with your body, not against it.

You’re still progressing. You’re still strong. But it doesn’t have to feel like an uphill battle.

Comment “blog” and I will send you all of my top tips for a more confident birth.

For many years, long before the word hypnobirthing existed, our grandparents (and their parents before them) were already practicing the same principles that we have in hypnobirthing. 🌿

They used deep breathing, grunting, groaning, meditation, home births, affirmations, up right births, support from others in the community and trust in the body’s ability to birth. These tools helped them stay calm, reduce fear, and work with their bodies instead of against them.

Today we call it hypnobirthing, of course there’s added knowledge in there from the modernised world, we have learnt lots about birth since then but we cannot dismiss some of the wonderful techniques our great grandparents used that still benefit us today, even if we have forgotten about many of them.

✨ Hypnobirthing isn’t new. It’s remembering what we’ve always known. ✨

Head to my blog to for all the essentials that you need to help you prepare for birth.
