I had the pleasure of attending ’Reunion’ written by Julie Dutkiewicz this evening. It displays the impact domestic violence has on individuals and highlights the necessary points of conversation we should be having. This play is available to book for organisations and community groups, so they may use this art form to introduce such an important subject.

Grace hasn’t seen her siblings in years. Not that she didn’t want to…it just wasn’t an option. He wouldn’t allow it. Years later, finally together again and no one knows where to begin. A decade of christenings and birthdays and funerals. But they all know it started with him. So, si...

🍷 Beyond ‘Dry January’ 🍷

Kicking off the new year sober sounds great — but what happens when January ends?

No matter what you choose after, a Dry January is a great way to get some perspective and reflect on how alcohol has impacted your life.

One of the biggest values of a Dry January is that it makes you re-evaluate your relationship with alcohol,” and that is a GOOD thing.

If you feel better and you’ve lost weight and you’re exercising more and you’re sleeping better — I think that’s a message from your body, and I think we need to listen to that message.

Dry January can be the motivation you need to kick alcohol for good. A UK study in 2018 found that Dry January affected how much people drank for months afterward.

Individuals who took part drank less overall days and on average drank less per day when they were drinking.

So, what you choose to do with Dry January is ultimately about your own goals.

The bottom line is that if you’re feeling better as a result of it, thinking about stopping drinking completely, definitely had its rewards.

I was privileged to attend the ‘Recovery In Motion’ conference by ARC Fitness - Addiction Recovery Coaching yesterday. Addiction is often overlooked when we talk about mental health even though it effects a large percentage of our population. The core reason for addiction should always be addressed instead of expecting people to go ‘cold turkey’. We should be tackling addiction from a holistic/systemic approach instead of a criminal justice approach. When suffering from any mental health issue it is so important to always keep in motion, keep going, take another step even if it is small, just keep going forward!

Something we all face at one stage or another is loss or a loved one. Grief has no timeline, whether it’s one month, one year or one decade. Psychotherapy can aid with grief by helping you become aware of your negative thought patterns. These patterns can lead to behaviors that make it difficult to process grief. So if you are feeling overwhelmed or are struggling for a prolonged period of time, that may be a sign that some professional help may be needed to move on.
