London Marathon 2025 - ✅ 5:39:43

So I did it! Yesterday I for first time finished a full marathon 🙌 It was an awesome day. My wife dropped me at Station. I met up with another runner from ,Tony, to head to Blackheath for the start. We also got chatting to another local runner Roland, who we travelled to start with.

First 10km went nicely, although I ran bit faster than I planned at 7-7.20/km (11:16-11:48/ mi) but I felt good. Around 10km mark I saw a group of AJ’s supporters which was nice. By about 12km I ran round The Cutty Sark in Greenwich feeling good.

10-20km I slowed a bit, it was getting warm. I enjoyed going through the cold sprays and they gave out cups of ice (which I put under my cap 🥶) I’d drink through my 2 collapsible 500ml Lucozade and packed them in my pocket. Had another 1.5L in my backpack and was having gels each 5km (with a quick 200-300m walk). Pulse was ok 150-160 ish. Unfortunately headphones ran out power here.

As I entered Docklands it felt harder leading to 25km mark and at 25km I took about 0.5km walk as I refuelled and gel’d up. If my pulse went >170 I’d slow down / walk a bit for rest race. Met more AH’s supporters which helped spirits!

28-30km I could certainly feel the strain on my legs, really heavy and tired. As I left Canary Wharf around 30km I took out my packet crisps and ate / walked and drank from backpack tube. I got few laughs from crowds as I walked stuffing my crisps.

From 30-40km I was starting to count each km left, whilst jogging I was passing lots who were now walking. I took a 0.5km walk myself as hit 35 and 40km as I refuelled and gel’d again (by this point I was sick of both gel & Lucozade and yearned for a beer / pizza!)

As Shard & Big Ben came in sight I got a boost and found I could jog and my pulse was steady at 160.
I really had second wind! As I passed round Pall Mall, Buckingham Palace the roar of crowd was incredible. I sprinted the line, whooping and punching the air as I crossed ! Wow! I DID IT🤣

Then I slow walked 10 mins to The Strand to meet fellow AJ’s runners & supporters. I hobbled to bar and that beer tasted incredible! 🍺 A fabulous day 🏃‍♂️

Week 13 - 90 mins Easy Run - 12.78km / 7.94 mi - 15 Days to go till London !

I had set out planning this morning to do a 22km. But had some back ache and knee ache today and I put it off till late till 7pm. But my heart wasn’t in it, and I didn’t want to aggregate back ache. So instead I stuck to the London Marathon planner that said to do 90 mins. At a slow pace this was just 12.78km (7.94 mi), Av HR 146bpm.

But on bright note i experimented with adding an electrolyte drink tablet to Lucozade sport, giving a tiny bit more salt to my drink in backpack. This didn’t taste too bad at all and so I’m going to use this. Also decided to definitely wear the running cap on the day, as well as shielding from heat, it’s great at stopping sweat getting in my eyes.

Just 15 days to go….. SCARY !

50 mins easy run - 8.78km (5.39 mi) - 16 days till London !🤣

Long day at work. But my daughter encourage me out to do my easy run I was supposed to have done yesterday! Nice steady pace and chatting. Pace 6:22/km (10:15/mi) with Av HR 161. 39% of Marathon distance. Only 16 days to go !

35km Long Run - 82% Marathon. 22 days to go.
So it’s done. Officially longest I’ve ever run. It was very tough last 5km and feel knackered afterwards. Great to run with Tracey from AJ’s for first half. 👍Total distance 35km 21.75 mi), in 7:57/km (12:48/mi) in 4:38:41, Av HR 153

it may be pretty slow, but I’ll take finishing it, at any pace. Now begins tapering till race day….

Will be running for The Kidney Fund please sponsor via this link 🔗 https://2025tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/colin-sinclaire

Another 30km. That’s 2 x 30km and 2 x 25km under my belt in last few weeks. Also felt tough, but perhaps slightly easier than last time. Used Hilltop honey gels every 5km with 1.5L in my backpack vest. Had walk pauses after each segment. Meant overall pace slow but HR much better controlled and felt quicker recovery next day.

36 days to go….. TCS London Marathon How on Earth will I get through 42km 🤣

18km in 2:30:17 , 8:23/km - 70 days left

Set a goal of 18km, not caring what the pace was. It varied 7.5-8.5 min/km, best I can do for now. Minimal hills.

It was feeling tough by end, but I got through it. Ice straight to the knee as hot home, now I’ll see how bad it is tomorrow! Eddie taped my leg and I also used a new leg brace. Frustrating to be running so slow, but at least I am getting some stretch of distance now.

70 days till London Marathon - it’s scarily close and I am so far off ready.

Back…. !

After repeated injuries to my knee and at least 3 failed restarts, gingerly tried back out again! Hit the Kenley Aerodrome for 1 loop, in end did 5km.

But a CAREFULLY run 5km thus time. Kept pace down and slowed when needed to. It mildly ached on/off but certainly was much better.

Am nervous it’s a worryingly short time to get up to Marathon distance by April. But it’s a start. 🙏

Can’t keep a good AJ’s runner down ! 😀 🏃‍♂️
