Neck and shoulder pain from desk work or sitting long time? The real problem might not be where you think. 🪑💻

When you sit for hours, your belly, chest, and front ribcage shorten and compress. This pulls your shoulder blades down and outward, forcing your shoulders forward. Your thin neck muscles work overtime pulling your head back into position - overusing your shoulder and neck muscles constantly.

Here’s what most therapy gets wrong:
Most treatments focus only on tight shoulders and neck muscles - the painful areas. But without opening up the chest and ribcage, your posture actually becomes harder to maintain. You’re fighting against a closed, compressed front body.

🍂 November brings shorter days and cooler weather… and often stiff, achy backs.
Feeling that crunch in your shoulders and neck? Pulled something while lifting? You’re not alone - I’ve been seeing so many clients lately dealing with lower back and neck tension.

⚠️ Important tip: If you’ve pulled a muscle, REST for 2-3 days first! I know it’s tempting to push through, but that inflammation needs time to settle. Don’t underestimate it - I’ve seen too many people make it worse by carrying on!

💆‍♀️ My approach:
After proper rest, seitai massage looks at your WHOLE body - not just where it hurts. We’ll check:
• Legs and hip alignment
• Shoulder blade mobility
• Psoas and abs
• All the areas that might be causing restrictions

Monday is now fully booked, but I still have slots available next Tuesday and Thursday. If you’re dealing with any aches and pains, I’d be happy to help during half term – supporting you to feel more active, energised, and comfortable as the weather turns colder.

I’m currently working with clients experiencing neck issues, frozen shoulders, hip problems, severe acute back pain, knee complaints, post-viral fatigue, and accident trauma recovery. Autumn Schedule at Maho’s Health Hub 🍂
After returning from my holidays, I’ve been seeing many clients who were injured during their summer break - from sports activities to postural issues from long study sessions. I treated many teens and children this summer, addressing everything from project-related sitting pains to sudden aches in legs, hips, and backs.

My seitai massage sessions often make clients feel sleepy, which works perfectly for recovery and relaxation when their nervous system needs to switch off.

Now that temperatures have dropped, it’s important to keep your body warm with sensible clothing. Avoid sudden cold that stiffens your shoulders and neck - wear warm socks for better circulation, use hot water bottles, lovely cup of warm drink, and treat yourself to a good hot bath.

During seasonal changes, as you return to routine, your mind and body can feel confused or anxious. (Definitely I am at the moment!) You’re often busy looking after family and friends, but remember to care for yourself too.
Autumn is the perfect time to reset your body and mind - massage therapy is a great investment for the coming season 💆‍♀️
