💙 Young Carers Action Day – 11 March 💙

Young carers are children and young people (usually under 18) who help care for a family member or loved one who is ill, disabled, living with a mental health condition or affected by substance misuse.

They often take on responsibilities usually done by adults — from practical tasks to emotional support and managing household routines. While many show incredible strength and resilience, caring at a young age can affect education, social life, health and wellbeing.

Today is about:
✨ Raising awareness of the challenges young carers face
✨ Recognising and valuing their contribution
✨ Encouraging schools, services and communities to support them
✨ Highlighting the need for tailored support and breaks

If you’re a young carer — or know one — you’re not alone.

Speak to your GP, school nurse or local young carer service. Support is available to help ensure caring responsibilities do not negatively impact health, education or wellbeing.

💛 Supporting children with a parent in prison

When a parent goes to prison, children can feel confused, upset, angry — and often alone.

Children Heard and Seen provides specialist support and trusted resources to help children and families navigate this difficult time.

In “Don’t Worry”, Evie (16), Cameron (13), Jada (6) and Zainen (8) share their real experiences — how they felt when their parent was arrested, what it’s like visiting prison, the worries they had, and how they learned to cope. Hearing directly from other young people can help children understand their feelings and know they’re not alone.

If you are supporting a child affected by parental imprisonment, these compassionate, child-friendly resources can make a real difference.
