Best injection for knee or shoulder pain? Ongoing bad pain in the knee? Suffering from osteoarthritis or meniscal injury? There are many options you could try first to help yourself including exercise, diet, anti-inflamatory medication, orthosis, manual therapy/massage...have your joint assessed properly though. If you are are having a sharp pain, it is difficult to sleep, do your work, an injection might be an option and this is something we can advise you on and help. There are always lots of questions, i.e.
- Which injection would be best? When would be best to have it done? Can it protect me from having an operation? Etc... Neuro-physiotherapy in Southampton! Debbie Zeun is joining our Team and will be helping stroke, brain-trauma, PD disease patients and all those with other neuro conditions. After qualifying in 2006, Debbie gained experience particularly in the neurological field working within the NHS in Hertfordshire and London followed by a senior role in a large private hospital in London. Since a recent move to Hampshire she has returned part-time to the NHS working in a specialist neurological rehabilitation ward where she works with people who have complex rehabilitation needs. She has specialised in rehabilitation of the arm and hand and also working with people who have a functional neurological disorder (FND) and complex pain presentations. She has completed a masters in Advanced Professional Practice in Neurological Rehabilitation and has recently published a research article 'Physiotherapy Management of Functional Movement Disorders' (Available to read for free here https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37876224/)

Vascular Ultrasound Examination and Assessment of Lower Limb Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

Study day with Antonio Sassano, Ellie Blaxland and Sue Bacon at the Bristol University on 19 March. It was good to see fellow physiotherapists and sonographers on the course. DVT can be serious especially if it does not stay in one place but in the form of an embolus moves in the venous system towards the heart and ends up in the lungs where it can lead to pulmonary embolism Although not really within my scope of practice I may come across a DVT during scanning of musculoskeletal injuries such as muscle or tendon tear or other pathologies around the knee joint. It is therefore important to identify the source of pain, and if it is a dvt, act swiftly, and refer accordingly. Patients often are put on anticoagulants but it all depends... Clots in superficial veins are not deemed dangerous unless they are in close proximity to a deep vein.
