Why do people volunteer at Blythe House Hospice? Everyone has their own reason.💙
Some of our volunteers are retired and keen to stay active and connected. Others are looking to build confidence, gain experience, or develop their CV. Many simply want to meet new people, give something back, or be part of something meaningful in their local community.
While our volunteers aren’t paid, the rewards are priceless. They know their time is valued by patients, families and staff, and that they are part of a team making a real difference to people living with a life-limiting illness, and those affected by bereavement.
There are wonderful social benefits too - friendships with fellow volunteers, connections with staff, and conversations with patients at the hospice, and customers in our shops, that brighten everyone’s day.
We also provide free, high-quality training tailored to each role, giving you the chance to learn new skills and grow in confidence.
One of our kind-hearted volunteers from our Thursday afternoon patient peer support group recently commented: 'I love the thought of our patients doing things they didn’t think they’d be able to make and create. Thank you for having me as a volunteer, I personally get so much out of my time with you.'
