I’ve always had an interest in complementary and holistic therapies, and after our daughter was born a few years ago, I decided it was time to make a change and try something new! I trained at the School of Bodywork in Exeter, and graduated with distinctions in Swedish Massage, Anatomy & Physiology, and Massage Theory. Soon after, I completed an additional course in Scar Tissue Release, and I cont
inue to be amazed by how much healing can be achieved with this gentle, non-invasive treatment - both physically and emotionally. I’ve since completed a Hot & Cold Stone Massage course, and continue to seek out ways to build on my skills. I’m fully insured, and a registered member of the British Complementary Medicine Association. What is Scar Tissue Release? Scar tissue is formed as part of the body’s healing process following surgery, injury, or other trauma. During this process, extra collagen fibres are laid down, and these have a greater density than the other fibres around them. They can adhere to each other, or to bony landmarks in the body which can cause restrictions and pain, as well as reduce function in the surrounding areas. Even when a scar looks to have healed well from the outside, it can be a different story beneath the surface as adhesions and restrictions cause pain, numbness and sensitivity, affect underlying structures and organs, and affect the movement of fluids through the body. For example, lower back pain that doesn’t seem to improve following other treatments could be caused by a caesarean section or other abdominal surgery, and treatment to the scar could provide relief. Emotional trauma is also stored within our body’s tissues, and this can be released during a scar tissue treatment, too - bringing a sense of overall healing. What can I expect during a scar tissue treatment? Before the treatment starts, an initial consultation will take place to gather details about your general health and wellbeing, as well as about your scar, and the related issues. You’ll be asked to lie on the couch, and you can remain clothed - with just the scar and the surrounding area visible. I don't use oil for this treatment, and a blanket will keep you warm and comfy throughout. The treatment lasts an hour, and you’ll be given some techniques to use at home, to continue with the healing process. What is Therapeutic Massage? Massage has been around for thousands of years, and has so many benefits - physiologically, psychologically and emotionally. I use Swedish massage techniques to create a treatment that is tailored to your particular needs, so whether you hold all your tension in your shoulders, you have pain in your lower back, or you have a troublesome knee, I'll work with you to create a treatment plan that best suits you. Alternatively, if you're just looking for some self-care, I can help with that too, with a full body massage that will allow you to completely relax and unwind. What can I expect during a massage treatment? Before the treatment starts, an initial consultation will take place to gather details about your general health and wellbeing, as well as about any particular issues you may be experiencing. You'll be asked to undress down to your underwear and lie on the couch, and towels will keep you covered and warm. Only the area I'm working on will be uncovered. What is Hot Stone Massage? Hot Stone massage dates back over 3000 years. Basalt stones are heated and used with oils to create a deeply relaxing massage that really works into the muscles to relieve tension and calm the mind. What can I expect during a Hot Stone treatment? The treatment includes a mixture of stone placement (where the hot stones are placed on or wrapped in towels and placed on your body), and massage with the stones. Please don't hesitate to give me a call or send me a message to find out more, or to book an appointment.
