Yesterday at Gillingham Grange, we were delighted to welcome the babies, parents, and team from Chard Community Hub for the start of our new reading club 📚👶

Our residents loved spending time reading to the babies, and it was wonderful to see everyone interacting together. The smiles on our residents’ faces said it all, the visit truly brightened their day.

A huge thank you to the lovely families and the amazing Chard Community Hub team for being so kind, polite, and engaging. We always enjoy welcoming you into daily life at Gillingham Grange, and we’re already looking forward to the next visit 💛

Six months of Gillingham Grange 💙

Looking back over the past half year, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come. From welcoming our very first resident, to the blessing of our home, to celebrating birthdays, parties, events and fayres, we are sooo proud of everything we have celebrated and achieved over the past 6 months.

Of course the number one reason why we do what we do are our wonderful residents. It is truly an honour to provide care and support to each and every one of you. We’ve been there through life’s most precious and emotional moments – supporting some through their final days with dignity and compassion, and helping others recover and regain independence to return home. Being part of these journeys is a privilege.

We’ve opened our home to the community over trick or treat, made magical memories at Christmas and Easter, enjoyed trips out together, and even had a very special guest… Henry the vacuum joining us on our grand open day (still a firm favourite! 😊). Along the way, we’ve also had the privilege of working alongside local charities and becoming part of the wider community.

A huge, heartfelt thank you goes to our incredible team who celebrated their 6 month anniversary. Their dedication, compassion and hard work have made everything possible (I may be biased but I must be the luckiest GM EVER). It’s no surprise that they were awarded the People Award at the South West Managers Meeting – so truly deserved. Six months ago, they began their journey here at Gillingham Grange, and everything we’ve achieved since is down to them.

Here’s to the memories we’ve made, the lives we’ve touched, and the community we continue to build together.

And here’s to the next 6 months… and beyond ✨

A Huge Shout Out to Micky… The Legend! 🌟

When Micky first arrived at Gillingham Grange Care Home, things were a bit of a pickle. After a fall at home left him with injuries that just weren’t healing properly, Micky needed some support, and quickly. Over the Christmas period he had no choice but to spend some time in hospital so he could get back on his feet… quite literally.

But if there’s one thing we’ve learned about Micky, it’s that he’s made of strong stuff. 💪

When he returned to Gillingham Grange after his hospital stay, he came back with a new determination and a stubborn streak that meant he wasn’t going to let anything keep him down. Micky was absolutely adamant he’d get some of his independence back.

And he got to work.

First it was walking around the home again. Then it was joining the other residents at mealtimes, building up his strength day by day, getting to know everyone… and even having a little dance at one of our residents’ parties (although he’ll deny that part if you ask him 😉).

Fast forward to March 2026 and Micky hasn’t just got back on his feet… he’s only gone and got himself back behind the wheel! 🚐
Don’t worry, everything is completely legal, signed off, and perfectly safe. Licence renewed, GP happy, and no eyebrows raised anywhere… except maybe ours when we realised how quickly he’d be off and about again!

Micky is a grafter through and through. Now that he’s got his van back, he’s already out helping his old neighbours with small jobs and doing what he does best, lending a hand and supporting his community.

Micky has decided to continue to make a new home here at Gillingham Grange. And why wouldn’t he? Here he can be waited on hand and foot… while still bringing so much to daily life around the home.
That said… I am slightly worried for our Maintenance Manager Ian’s job. I think Micky might have his eye on it. 🔧😄

You should be soooooo proud Micky. Your determination, humour and community spirit make you a true legend around here.👏

We’d like to apologise for the lack of posts throughout February, it has been a very busy month here at Gillingham Grange Care Home, but we certainly haven’t been short of fun and special moments to share! 💛

February brought lots of lovely activities for our residents. We celebrated Valentine’s Day with a wonderful afternoon cream tea, complete with a special performance from a talented saxophonist which created such a warm and relaxing atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. 🎷💕

Our residents have also been keeping active with some friendly bowling games, which brought plenty of smiles, laughter and a little bit of healthy competition!

We were also delighted to welcome the Chard Community Hub to join us. The children came along to watch a film in our cinema room, creating a lovely intergenerational afternoon that brought plenty of smiles to both the residents and the children. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying time together. 🎬

We also held a relaxing pamper day where our lovely care assistant Leigh treated residents to freshly painted nails, adding a beautiful pop of colour and making everyone feel extra special. 💅✨

With the sunshine starting to make an appearance and the days getting a little brighter, it certainly feels like spring is in the air here at Gillingham Grange. 🌷 We’re all looking forward to spending more time enjoying the fresh air and the lovely season ahead.

Here are a few photos capturing some of our February highlights! 📸

Breakfast for Professionals at Gillingham Grange Care Home 🥐

We were delighted to welcome Emilee, Hannah and Pete, Village Agents for Chard, Ilminster and the surrounding towns and villages, to our recent Breakfast for Professionals event at Gillingham Grange.

The team works with Thrive Somerset an organisation at the heart of Somerset since 1926, supporting local people and strengthening communities to help them truly thrive. It was great to chat about their vital role in the community and explore how Gillingham Grange can also support and contribute to the fantastic work they do.

We also shared some of the upcoming initiatives aimed at bringing the community into our home, including Fish & Chip Fridays, Sunday roasts, and a range of events coming soon. Keep an eye out for more details!

A big thank you to the team for joining us, we look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

In the meantime, don’t forget to join us at our Breakfast for Professionals every Monday from 9:30am. Everyone is welcome!

🎵 Music, Connection & Community 🎵

Last Wednesday, our residents and team members had a wonderful time welcoming Polly Orr-Ewing, who works with WATCH CIO. Polly is a qualified music therapist and truly believes in the power of music to bring people together and add joy to everyday life... and we certainly felt that during the session!

Photos from the afternoon show that it is safe to say there were plenty of smiles and great moments enjoyed by all.

The group is open to everyone, and we’d love to see some new faces join us at future sessions. If you enjoy music, meeting people, and sharing a relaxed, friendly time together, please come along, you’ll be sooo very welcome.

We hope to see you soon!

🍎🥕 A happy accident at Gillingham Grange Care Home!

We recently received a double delivery of fresh fruit and vegetables by mistake. Rather than let any of it go to waste, we were very pleased to donate the extra produce to our friends at the Community Fridge, courtesy of the Chard Community Hub

The Community Fridge is a fantastic local resource, helping good food reach people who can really use it. If you or someone you know could benefit, please do pop along... everyone is welcome, and it’s there to support our community.

Huge thanks to the Chard Community Hub for helping make this happen 💚

🎉 Happy 91st Birthday! 🎉

We had the absolute pleasure of celebrating a very special 91st birthday here at Gillingham Grange Care Home on Friday 💖

Our birthday lady shared a wonderful memory of a party she had years ago, when she treated her friends to a performance by local Chard entertainer Country Dave. After a little bit of research and some secret planning, we managed to track him down and arrange the most amazing surprise! 🎶🤠

Country Dave joined us on the day, and what followed was a fantastic party with residents and team members all joining in. There were so many giggles, lots of singing, and plenty of dancing – including our birthday girl waving her hands in the air and loving every moment of her surprise 🥳💃

A delicious birthday cake was shared with everyone, making the celebration even sweeter 🍰

What a truly joyful day filled with music, memories, and smiles all round 💕
