Reduce, reuse, recycle! ♻️
We had a fantastic start to our projects Eco Expressions thanks to
Students became eco heroes 🦸 and explored our role in looking after the planet!
"It has been a pleasure to co-deliver the Eco Expressions pilot project at Leigh Academy Cherry Orchard Primary School. We delivered this project as a team to year 4 and year 5 children. This project was designed to get the children thinking about how to be eco heroes and thinking about the reduce, reuse, recycle cycle. We were all impressed with the conversations that took place with the children and they were all positive about being more eco friendly by the end of the project.
In week one the children made an item that they could wear made of recyclable materials. There were a variety of items that we made and it was great to see them in the last week wearing them in their dance performances and being proud eco heroes.
We had 3 weeks of dance workshops where the children did a warm up and played games to help them understand the concepts of reduce, reuse and recycle. They learnt a variety of key movements and were able to create their own dance movements whilst working in groups - this allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts of reduce, reuse and recycle, whilst getting them active and encouraging their creativity and team work skills.
In week 4 the children put their whole piece together and performed all together - 60 children performing together was really powerful and the celebration at the end of the performance was very special. You could clearly see that they were proud of what they achieved.
Teaching this project as a team has been wonderful, both planning and delivering lessons has allowed us to spread our passion for the arts and most importantly give children the opportunity to have fun whilst learning" - Jenny, AP Artist
