“So I went to the doctor and said my shoulder hurts when I do this… so the doctor said, well don’t do that then.” Tommy Cooper
It’s a funny line, but it reflects a reality many people experience.
A lot of our patients come to us after being told to simply rest and avoid what hurts. While that can help in the very short term, it often doesn’t solve the underlying problem.
In most cases, the key isn’t avoiding movement, it’s learning how to move better - gradually rebuilding strength, and challenging the body in the right way.
Pain isn’t always a stop sign. Sometimes it’s a signal that we need a smarter plan.
If you’ve been stuck in the cycle of “just rest it,” there may be a better way forward.
