When it's been a challenging day I can't drown myself in a bottle of wine or a tonne of comfort food - I know my body wouldn't thank me and I have to listen.
Instead I take a 30 minute swim - 50 lengths (1.35km) and now I feel my stresses melting away.
Swimming has fantastic 🧠 mental health benefits because it triggers the release of "feel-good" chemicals like endorphins and serotonin, which help boost your mood and reduce stress and anxiety.
The rhythmic and meditative motion of swimming🏊 — combined with deep, steady breathing — acts like a form of active meditation, helping calm the mind and reduce racing thoughts.
Regular swimming can lead to better sleep quality, which in turn helps regulate stress levels.
💪 You also get physical stress relief because as the water supports your body it reduces impact on joints, and helps relax tense muscles — especially after a long, stressful day.
Like any regular aerobic exercise, swimming is shown to reduce levels of cortisol, the body’s primary stress hormone. 🤯
While it’s a workout, swimming can actually leave you feeling more energized and less sluggish afterward.
You don't even need to be good at it to reap all these benefits.
🌀 There’s something inherently soothing about water — the feeling of floating, the sound of splashing, and the cool temperature all work together to promote a calm state of mind. It's like nature’s therapy.

This is me proving you are never too old.
About 32 years ago I got my first pair of pointe shoes. I didn't have the opportunity to learn to dance when I was young, despite being desperate to be a ballet dancer. When I was 18 and independent I took up every dance class I could - ballet, tap, modern, Irish. If there was a class I tried it and loved it all.
When I started my family I gave up dancing. Now at 51 I have started ballet classes again and have just achieved being strong enough to try pointe classes again. I am so proud of myself and super excited to continue my journey of strengthening and stretching my body!!!

World Reef Awareness Day - June 1st 2025 🌊
This day aims to raise awareness about the delicate ecosystem of coral reefs and encourage individuals, businesses, and organizations to take action to protect them.
It's a call to action to educate, engage, and create active change for our oceans.
☀️Did you know that some suncreams actually harm our coral reefs 😢...

We’re the first brand in Europe to earn this amazing recognition! ✅
☀️Tropic is proudly certified Reef-Safe, meaning our entire sun care range is free from oxybenzone and octinoxate – two chemicals known to cause coral bleaching and reef damage 🚫

🌿 Discover Allergy Testing Through Kinesiology 🌿
Struggling with unexplained symptoms like fatigue, skin issues, bloating, or sinus problems? 🤧 Your body might be reacting to hidden allergens—and kinesiology can help uncover the cause.
💪 What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology is a holistic method that uses gentle muscle testing to access information from your body. It can detect imbalances caused by foods, environmental factors, or emotional stressors.
🔬 How Allergy Testing Works:
Through muscle response testing, we can identify specific substances your body may be sensitive to—without needles or lab tests! It’s non-invasive, natural, and often offers insights that traditional allergy tests might miss.
🍞🥜🌻 Whether it’s gluten, dairy, pollen, or even household chemicals—your body knows. Kinesiology helps you listen.
✨ Benefits of Kinesiology Allergy Testing:
✔️ Gentle & non-invasive
✔️ Suitable for kids & adults
✔️ Can reveal hidden sensitivities
✔️ Supports natural healing

My journey began when my daughter, at age seven, was diagnosed with coeliac disease. From a baby, we struggled with sleepless nights, extremely bad nappy rash and as she got older the constant complaining she felt sick. We were brushed off by doctors until, one day, I had had enough. Sat in the church watching the children of the school perform their beautiful songs, I couldn’t see my daughter. She was in the middle class but the children of the lower classes were so much bigger than her she was hidden.
Finally, after a lot of cajoling, the doctor referred us to a paediatrician. The consultant took one look at her and requested blood tests. These tests confirmed she was severely anaemic as a result of the coeliac disease. A good dose of iron over the following months and immediately eliminating gluten from her diet resulting in a different child. All of a sudden our daughter was full of energy, happy and bouncy. Since then, she has developed in leaps and bounds. She has caught up with her peers and is blossoming into a beautiful young woman. We had to have the whole family tested for coeliac disease as it is genetic - it turns out she got it from me (who’d have thought that what the doctors diagnosed as IBS was actually coeliac disease).
During my journey, a lot of friends and acquaintances ask for my advice about a gluten free and dairy free diet (me be dairy intolerant). I wanted to be able to help other people in my situation, so I studied nutrition to advanced level and became a Nutritional Therapist (part-time to fit with my school Learning Support Assistant role during the day). I then trained in kinesiology and allergy testing using this method. Following this I have also passed qualifications in reflexology, acupressure, various massage techniques, meditation teaching, aromatherapy, EFT, facials and dermaplaning.
