SEN friendly day every 2nd Saturday 👏🏻

Tomorrow (Saturday 10 January) is our first SEN Saturday of 2026!

To coincide with our new exhibition, 'Oi Chelmsford! Kes Gray: Chelmsford Born and Read', we've introducing SEN Friendly Saturdays at the museum, which take place every 2nd Saturday of the month for the whole day.

This is an opportunity for visitors with additional or sensory needs to enjoy the museum with friends and carers, in a more relaxed atmosphere. You can expect:

🐞 a chill out space on the first floor to relax, eat and drink if any of your group needs a break
🐸 sound effects in the exhibition, and nearby hand driers in the toilets will be turned off
🎧 ear defenders and fidget toys available from the front desk.

Don't forget, admission is free for children under 18 years, and for carers attending with those who need them to assist with their visit.

🌈 It is with great sadness that we share the news that our therapy dog Monty crossed over rainbow bridge today and is no longer with us 😢 we know he has touched a number of hearts. Starting his work at The Ark at only 13 weeks old in 2016. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten ❤️
