MIND, BODY and why SPIRIT?
After writing the piece From Social Work To Soul Work, loads of things rushed into my mind. Misconceptions about the spiritual side of life, the energy that make you, YOU! What makes you tick, what gets the juices flowing, what get the adrenaline pumping the spiritual you, It is not a being outside of you, it is you.
if you believe in an organized faith, you too can have a spiritual experience within that, but similarly someone who believes themselves atheist or agnostic, still have energy that is part of who humans are.
I know a lot of people would get to this point and say “its Snake Oil or Woo Woo and maybe it is but snake oil is actually high in fatty acids and omega 3s and did more good than harm, as for the Woo Woo I make full claim to that, I am a Witch of 45 years it is who I am and is what makes me tick.
Back in the 1960s behaviourist like Skinner denied the need to observe or recognise spirituality, more focused on behaviour and never brining the element of spiritual into the equation; Mid-20th century psychology was dominated by behaviourism, which meant that and spiritual aspects was denied as unimportant and the essence of an individual lost. there were some who did make connections through the holistic field (Laing) however by ignoring and stating that spirituality was unimportant lead lots of people to believe that spirituality could only be found in religion or organised faith.
Many people turned their back on organised faith not because they did not believe in anything but because of the pigeonhole spirituality was put in not leaving room to explore individual spiritual essence or energy.
Let us leave the history there, interesting but mind boggling too.
So, people are surprised to find out they believe in more things than not, such as gravity, without it would we even exist? People manifest without realising they are doing it; I did for many years and then I found what I was doing and my practice changed but I did not stop believing.
working with someone recently, who made a bold sweeping state, “I believe in noting” I smiled and said “really” this started and amazing journey of self-discovery, thought s they had never considered before, and it started with the gravity question, relenting into the realisation actually they did believe something, I then heard “however” I butted in asking them to listen and just answer a few more questions.
Being a football enthusiast I was able to give scenarios to prove my point, such as on the way to a match, predicting the score and outcome with a friend, Manifesting! the difference between getting to that all important match or being late for kick off it that green light staying green, so you sit in your car “stay green” “stay green” “stay green” you are now praying to the God of green lights, this raised a hearty chuckle because we all do this, no matter who we are. you then arrive at the venue, you join 100s if not 1000s of other enthusiasts, who enter a big arena, all talking about the possibility of the outcome, More manifesting but this time with lots of vibrational energy… and then the chanting begins and raising that all important energy. BY this time the person conceded and said I get it, I get this is my spiritual self! “Exactly” I replied.
You see thinking of yourself in a different light can and does change how you feel about things, your energy shifts, after the session of emotional detox they had the best night sleep for years…
this was just one of the many things I pondered on after I wrote Social Work to Soul Work…
