Temperatures are going to be at their highest today ☀️ please drink plenty and follow the useful guide below to help keep everyone safe and well 💚

The heatwave is here 🔥

For many, it’s time to get outside and enjoy those gardens, parks and outdoor spaces for many. But the hot weather can cause discomfort and a risk of dehydration for people living with dementia.

Here are a few things that can help:

☀️ Make sure the person is dressed appropriately. Try light-coloured, loose-fitting clothes made from natural fibres.

☀️ Keep the house as cool as possible. Keep curtains or blinds closed during the day - especially in south-facing rooms. In the evening, open the windows to let the warm air out and the colder air in.

☀️ Avoid the midday sun. Stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day (between 11am and 3pm). Seek out plenty of shade and reapply sunscreen regularly when out.

☀️ Find ways to cool off. Help them take a cool bath or shower. Place a washcloth and some iced water nearby to dab themselves with.

☀️ Stay hydrated. Leave beakers or jugs of water within easy reach. Provide high water content foods like ice lollies, jelly, ice cream, soup and fruit such as melon

☀️ Ask friends and neighbours to pop in and check the person is ok. If you don’t live near the person, they could stay and have a drink with the person and make sure they have everything they need.

Hi I'm Kiera!
What I love about working for Elsie’s:
What isn’t there to love? Everyone was so welcoming and friendly when I arrived. I felt like I had always been a part of the team. They have supported me brilliantly throughout my time and they are always there if dilemmas pop up. I have never felt more safe within a job and I am enjoying every second of it! The care delivered is compassionate, efficient and done to the highest of standards. Client-centered care is at the forefront of Elsie’s care and this is something I wanted to make sure was the case when I started. They have also been great with supporting me as I am also at Uni full time, so sometimes the workload from that is overwhelming and they have been brilliant at understanding and by working around it.
Fun fact about me - I am training to be a midwife.

💚 care assistants - no experience necessary as we teach you all you need to know! We do ask for a kind caring nature and a willingness to learn. £13.40-£14 per hour (plus travel time and mileage on top). Full UK licence and own car essential plus the RTW in the UK

Today we celebrated Lauren…after nearly 3 years with Elsie’s Lauren has decided to abandon us (joking) for new adventures and opportunities. Lauren was one of the first carers to join Elsie’s and then became our care coordinator. We are so grateful for your commitment and hardwork and we are going to miss you a lot! As the saying goes it’s not goodbye…but see you later! Good luck Lauren 💚
