What is everyone up to this BH Monday?

I’m all for coffee, kindle, garden and a strange yellow ball in the sky - I think it’s called the Sun but it’s been so long that I’ve seen it my meno brain has forgotten ! 🌞

Something for you to share on your own socials - tapping into the lymph drainage trend.

‘Did you know a reflexology treatment can help support your lymphatic drainage?

The deep belly breathing you do at the beginning of a treatment creates an upward force and vacuum which sucks the lymph fluid into the thoracic duct (main collecting pipe), unblocking any stagnant fluid and allowing your river to flow

Reflexology - more than just a foot rub!

Lymphatic Drainage …..

How does lymph move if it doesn’t have a pump?
(Or How to base your socials around the drainage trend)

🌿muscle contraction helps drainage - we can passively plantar/dorsi-flex foot during our warm-up to stimulate lymph movement (FYI calf muscles are known as the peripheral pump)
🌿deep, diaphragmatic breathing helps drainage - we can encourage ‘belly breathing’ during warm-up and cool-down
🌿lymph vessels have one-way valves to prevent back flow and help drainage - reflexology induces relaxation so vessels are not so restricted increasing lumen (hole) size for better uptake
🌿having legs elevated helps drainage - using bolsters/ pillows during treatment or using a Lafuma keeps legs elevated.

So you can see how to relate your ads to the drainage trend using the above info.

How does lymph move if it doesn’t have a pump?

🌿muscle contraction - we can passively plantar/dorsi-flex foot during our warm-up to stimulate (FYI calf muscles as known as the peripheral pump)
🌿deep, diaphragmatic breathing - we can encourage ‘belly breathing’ during warm-up and cool-down
🌿one-way valves in vessels - reflexology induces relaxation so vessels are not so restricted increasing lumen size for better uptake
🌿having legs elevated - this is an easy one if you use a Lafuma as the position is excellent for drainage

So, you can see how easily it would be to convert those 4 things above to relate to lymph drainage and your treatments

So, one fluid but depending where it is - it is called something different (and contents vary too!)

🌿in CV system = plasma - this is clean ‘water’
🌿bathing tissue = tissue fluid (aka interstitial fluid but that’s harder to say!😂) - this ends as dirty ‘water’
🌿picked up by initial
lymphatics = lymph fluid - this is filtered and cleaned in nodes and ends as clean ‘water’

The second circulatory system - your lymphatic system. But, unlike the first it doesn’t have a pump (the CV system does!).

Comprised of;-

🌿 lymph fluid
🌿 lymph vessels
🌿 lymph tissue/organs
🌿 lymph nodes
🌿 lymph ducts - 2

Lymph fluid is a derivative of tissue fluid, which in itself, is a derivative of blood plasma.
🌿Plasma escapes the blood vessels and bathes tissues (now tissue fluid) delivering essential nutrients and collecting waste
🌿it’s then picked up by lymph vessels and now called lymph
🌿lymph fluid contains all the nasties - metabolic waste, old blood cells, viruses and bacteria etc
🌿lymph fluid has to be cleaned by at least 1 lymph node before entering back into blood stream to become plasma again and the cycle begins again

Our lymphatic system is the gatekeeper of our wellness. It filters and cleans the fluid in our body keeping us well. It attacks pathogens 🦠 and remembers them for next time. (Immunity). It’s a system of vital importance but rarely noticed.

Our lymphatic system needs to be a free-flowing stream and not a stagnant, algae-ridden pond.

Lymphatic drainage ……

It’s everywhere at the moment, isn’t it? Videos about self-massage, products to buy etc, SM is flooded with it!

How can we hook into this trend as reflexologists?

I’ll be covering some a&p revision on lymphatic system and some ideas about converting what your clients are seeing about drainage and applying it to your treatments.

Stay tuned

Would you like to offer your clients something specifically for them? A bodywork ritual to support ladies in their menopause.

Mian Shenti is a bodywork ritual aimed at your peri menopause, menopause (it’s actually only one day after your last period / when menstruation is ‘paused’ or stopped) and post-menopause clients.

Menopause is a time of transition, the body is changing physiologically. It is not a time for ‘sweaty’ exercise or deep bodywork. The body cannot clear away inflammation caused by both - as the ‘driver’ (oestrogen) is declining. So, what worked in your 20s and 30s may need a radical rethink in this time of change.

Mian Shenti honours this transition, creating a calming re-set and a safe space to regulate and restore.

It comprises:-

🌷 crystal placement
🌷 meditations
🌷 vagus nerve regulation
🌷 MLD
🌷 Steel Gua Sha to meridians
🌷 soothing effleurage

There are only 2 spaces left for this two day course in Essex (14th & 15th April).

Come and join us for an informal, friendly, upskilling two days and become part of the Phoenix family ❤️ (once joined there’s ongoing, never-ending support via a permanent WhatsApp group).
