A range of qualification levels available & mental health counselling and support available to all Originally set up in conjunction with the expansion of the Abberton Reservoir, Abberton Rural Training are a multi award winning charity providing education to a whole range of groups including vulnerable and isolated people, those who are economically inactive (whether claiming benefits or not) and Wounded and Injured Service Personnel and Veterans on our free courses, as well as offering paid courses to those who are working. We also have specialist groups for those with additional needs including autism, aspergers etc and have trained tutors and extra support available to help all succeed. We provide learning opportunities and teaching resources to groups wanting support for their volunteers to run community gardens themselves including parish councils and schools. We have also been working with seven District and Borough Councils to help isolated and vulnerable people throughout the COVID pandemic with our Stay At Home, Grow Your Own programmes which have seen amazing results. In addition, we also provide online and distance learning for those from outside the area or those unable to take part at the moment in physical courses. We provide opportunities for anyone who is interested in gaining skills in practical subjects including Woodlands, Land, Horticulture, Environment and Conservation, Construction and Carpentry and everything in between! We work completely organically, using traditional rural skills and nature and help support areas with their environmental efforts including helping them to manage restricted conservation such as in conjunction with Natural England requirements and to meet government environmental management guidelines.
