Here are the key recovery principles we recommend to all our running patients:
- Rehydrate and restore electrolytes within the first hour
- Keep moving gently rather than going completely sedentary
- Elevate and ice any joints that feel swollen or hot
- Prioritise sleep in the 48 hours after a hard effort
- Book a sports massage within 3 to 5 days to flush waste products and reduce muscle tightness
