👁️ What is an Optomap Scan – and Why Do We Recommend It? 👁️

At Boatmans Optical, your eye health is our priority — that’s why we recommend an Optomap retinal scan as part of your eye examination.

🔎 What is an Optomap scan?

An Optomap scan is an advanced digital retinal image that captures a wide-field view of the back of your eye in just seconds. Unlike traditional methods, it can show up to 200° of your retina in one image — that’s around 80% of the retina in a single scan!

💡 Why is it important?

The retina gives us vital information about your eye health — and even your general health. An Optomap scan helps us detect early signs of:

✔️ Glaucoma
✔️ Macular degeneration
✔️ Retinal tears or detachments
✔️ Diabetic eye changes
✔️ High blood pressure-related changes

Many of these conditions can develop without noticeable symptoms, so early detection is key.
