March, was month and we had two good reasons to celebrate this month at The Runnymede Hospital Endometriosis Centre.

We have been awarded full accreditation status by the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy for a second year in a row

AND

We have been awarded the prestigious FRCOG title (Fellow of the College) by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists RCOG, a seminal point in every Gynaecologist's career in the United Kingdom.

The BSGE applies some of the most stringent criteria in the world for the function of its Endometriosis Centres.

The CEMIG Team Wins Prestigious Award at National Robotic Conference

The Centre for Endometriosis and Minimally Invasive Gynaecology (CEMIG) is proud to announce its recent success in winning first prize at the British Robotic Gynaecology Association Annual Scientific Meeting, November 2024.

Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust prides itself in having a well-established accredited and commissioned Endometriosis Centre with the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE). An extremely busy and high volume tertiary centre that was ranked 3rd busiest in the UK in 2023.

In just under 12 months, the team have successfully established a multidisciplinary endometriosis robotic service, successfully completing 66 robotic-assisted surgical cases, in conjunction with the urology and colorectal surgical team.

At the conference, the team showcased their surgical excellence through surgical videos which earned widespread commendation. A milestone achievement was presenting the Trust’s first-ever case of a fully robotic-assisted joint excision-reconstructive surgery performed. This procedure exemplifies the potential of robotic surgery in tackling severe endometriosis while enhancing patient outcomes. The CEMIG team have demonstrated the effectiveness of multi-disciplinary work in achieving patient-centred care. The dedicated robotic theatre 8 staff, endometriosis nurses and enhanced recovery team made this possible.

Congratulations to the CEMIG team for their outstanding contribution to the Trust and well-deserved recognition.

Excellent discussion with gynaecology colleagues at the National Hospital in Abuja, Nigeria on the Surgical Excision of Endometriosis. We talked about the challenges in providing care for advanced endometriosis in a low-resource setting and possible solutions.

The course was perfectly organised by our former CEMIG Fellow Dr Ahmed Abdullahi and his colleagues. Looking forward to further collaboration with his team in Nigeria !

Fantastic news for The Runnymede Hospital which has been shortlisted for the Circle Health Group Hospital of the Year Rise Award!

The awards recognise “Inspirational Staff Excellence" and the shortlisting follows a few years of hard work where the hospital has seen the development of a state of the art imaging suite , the accreditation of our Endometriosis Centre , upgrade of theatre equipment, renovation and several organisational and governance improvements.

Well done to everyone at the Runnymede and a warm welcome to our new interim Executive Director Jacob Bloor !

Very proud of our fellow Ben Mondelli, who wrote up and published in BMJ Case Reports this interesting report and review of the literature on Spontaneous Haemoperitoneum of Pregnancy associated with .

The report discusses a rare complication of endometriosis in pregnancy and challenges the traditional belief that the disease always gets better with pregnancy.

I believe it was Maya Angelou (1928-2014), an American poet and civil rights activist who said:

“people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”

It makes me very proud that a lot of the feedback we receive in our practice emphasises exactly that valuable human experience:

that our patients felt at ease , while they were looked after by our multi-disciplinary team, during a journey that was difficult and stressful for them, during a time that they were vulnerable, which at the end led to a good outcome.
