Words to Live by
We all have our own ‘Words to Live by’, whether they have come from a family member, celebrity, hero, or fictional character; most of us use quotes to remind us of our direction in life.
Jim Whittaker was the first to climb Mount Everest in 1963, which complements my personal philosophy perfectly. “If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.”
I believe in life outside of your comfort zone, I believe in following your sense of adventure and honouring your intuition.
We are lucky enough to have been born into a world where opportunity presents itself again and again, sometimes in small discrete packages and other times in unavoidably grand dances!
Jim’s quote means a lot to me, it is how I have managed to work in 6 different countries since the age of 17, and why I continue to pursue my passions.
As I have gotten older, it has grown up with me. I now see it in a more philosophical sense; the ‘space’ is the mind and the ‘edge’ is risk. Being stagnant is toxic for our mental health. This doesn’t mean that you must absolutely and immediately pack up and move countries - start small. How about a pear instead of an apple?
This is the beauty of ‘Words to Live by’, they are completely open to interpretation, one phrase that may have clear meaning to you could have a completely different meaning to others.
Take this moment to reflect on your Words to Live by, and share your own.
Love, Jade
