Today, this little one joined me in the play therapy room.

For once, I didn't bring something thinking of the children and young people I work with, but for myself.

Boo, the Hedgehog was a present from my daughter, and she gave it to me knowing I'm always cold. This hot water bottle hedgehog has been keeping me warm all day, quietly keeping me company between sessions.

It felt like a small but important act of self-care and a gentle reminder that I'm allowed comfort too. I have a feeling he is going to become a regular during the winter months, popping up in the room as a cosy ally on colder days.

A small pause to mark a big milestone.

I don't often stop to count the hours, but today I did.

Hours of play, stories, silence, role-playing, creativity, sitting on the floor, wondering, noticing small shifts, co-regulation, gentle growth, trusting the process and learning -again and again- how much children communicate beyond words.

I feel deeply grateful for the children and young people who have invited me into their worlds, for the trust given and for how this work continues to shape me, both professionally and personally.

This feels like a moment worth honouring. 🀍

Wishing everyone a joyful Christmas and a happy New Year!

May this be a time to slow down, rest, recharge, and enjoy meaningful moments with those closest to us.

And if you have children, I hope you get to experience the magic of the season through their eyesβ€”filled with play, laughter, and time to truly connect.

I'm back home from finishing my training days to become a Creative Clinical Supervisor with and .

I've had an amazing course director and the best colleagues to share and walk through this journey.

I feel very honoured to be part of this group. We worked very hard, but we also had time to be creative and fun.

If you are looking for a supervisor in Buckinghamshire, feel free to pm me. I'll be glad to have a chat with you and help.

Part 2 of the Child and Adolescent Counselling Skills course I was doing, offered by IATE, finished today.
I have just ended my last intensive weekend of training with an assessment day. πŸŽ‰
It has been so full on, but exceptionally enriching at the same time.
I'm very tired but excited about all the new skills I had the opportunity to learn and put into practice.
It's been such an amazing journey. I definitely learnt a lot!

This is why bedtime stories are important... Keep reading to your little ones... :-) It builds strong emotional bonds and helps the child's brain process language by tuning into the exaggerated rhythms of speech.

Last year, I joined the Certificate in Child and Adolescent Counselling Skills course run by The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE) and Dr Margot Sunderland.

The course is split into two parts, and I am delighted to share that I've successfully completed and passed the assessment for Part One and have been awarded a Certificate in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

It's been an incredibly rewarding journey so far, full of learning, reflection and grow.

I have one more month to go before completing the full course. Roll on the end of November!! πŸŽ‰ ☺️

Cards as a tool to help children and teens talk about their lives with the help of a trusted adult who offers understanding, empathy, and gentle enquiry.

They should only be used when the child/teen very clearly wants to engage in the process of talking about their feelings.

Using cards can help a child/teen make the shift from unstoried emotions to a coherent narrative, make sense of painful life experiences and alleviate alexithymia.
