SUMO DEADLIFT:
PROS, CONS & A WEEKEND REMINDER 🏋️‍♀️

Getting back into training (or starting from scratch) isn’t about doing everything — it’s about doing the right things for you and with as good form as possible.

The Sumo Deadlift

Pros
• More upright torso = often friendlier on the lower back
• Greater use of glutes and inner thighs
• Shorter range of motion for many people great for shorter peeps like me to achieve higher loads quicker. Or taller!! For that matter!
• Can feel more much more stable when learning to hinge

Cons
• Requires good hip mobility and positioning
• Not ideal for everyone’s bio mechanics see above re height
• Can mask poor hinge mechanics if rushed

The bigger lesson 👇
When you’re returning to training — or learning how to train — the goal isn’t chasing the hardest or trendiest movement.

It’s:
• Learning to hinge well
• Building strength gradually
• Respecting your structure, medical/condition history & load capacity
• Leaving the gym feeling better than you arrived

This weekend, don’t worry about lifting heavy.
Worry about lifting well.

Start where you can succeed.
Progress comes from patience, consistency — not punishment.

My form could be a bit better but it’s doable after 6 months of half hearted inconsistent training. Not a bad total for dipping my toes in and not getting injured. And leaving the gym wanting more!

Strength isn’t always lifting heavy.
Sometimes it’s choosing to step outside. A short walk, some fresh air, a stretch outside—
It’s not about burning calories.
It’s about lifting your mood, clearing your head, and helping your body feel good.

Movement is medicine.
Sunshine is a reset esp if you are lucky like me to have Sunshine today☀️🌞
And Christmas is the perfect day to slow down and take both 💚

A short walk.
A few deep breaths.
A little winter sunshine on your face ☀️

Movement today isn’t about doing more —
it’s about supporting your nervous system, your joints, your headspace.

This is where strength meets well-being.
Looking after your body so it can look after you — today and every day.

Enjoy the rest. Enjoy the food.
And if you can, gift yourself a little movement outdoors 💚
