In my experience as a nurse and midwife I have met numerous women who are unsure of when and where to seek advice about menopause and who are sometimes afraid to do so. Menopause is still a social taboo that prevents women getting the support, advice, and information that they deserve. I believe that after 40, every woman should start to prepare for menopause and beyond. It should be seen as the next important step in our female journey. Like any journey we take, we need to be prepared. I am a qualified nurse and midwife. I have studied and worked in Dublin and London. I have a first-class hons degree in Sexual Health (BSc) from The University of Greenwich, London and a Postgraduate Dip in Midwifery from Trinity College, Dublin. I currently work in Sexual and Reproductive Health in the NHS. I have extensive experience in women’s health and contraception and have worked in women’s health care for over 12 years. I am a registered nurse. I am a member of the British Menopause Society and the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health. I regularly attend conferences and courses on gynaecology, menopause, contraception, and sexual health. I have a specialist interest in peri menopause and the impact unmanaged symptoms can have on a woman’s health and wellbeing. I am in my early 40’s with a young family. I have ‘first-hand’ experience of peri menopausal changes! I want to share my knowledge and experience with my kindred women. Eight minutes in the GP surgery is not enough time for you and your GP to discuss and plan a way forward to manage your menopause. You are individual and unique and your menopause will be the same. Whether you’re currently living with symptoms or want to prepare for your postmenopausal future, it’s time to ready yourself and steady yourself. With the majority of us set to spend a third of our lives post menopause, it’s good to be prepared. This fun and informative workshop will provide women, who are experiencing menopausal symptoms, an opportunity to learn about ways to manage those symptoms. We will share with you ways to reduce the effect of symptoms and help to limit the major impact symptoms can have on everyday life. None of us should suffer in silence! This three-hour workshop is perfect for women who are approaching menopause and noticing a change in their menstrual cycle, mood, or physical changes. It is also extremely useful for women with menopausal symptoms who want more advice and support. This session will support women beyond menopause to live well and healthy lives. The workshops provide up-to-date clinical evidence, advice, information, tips, and strategies. It gives women an opportunity to meet and talk to other women and share experiences. Together we can unlock the mysteries of this last social taboo.
