L&G are an independent Funeral Directors.

Supporting an independent small business - what does it mean?

It means choosing to spend your money, time, or attention on locally owned, privately operated businesses rather than large corporations or chains. It’s about helping real people — often your neighbors or members of your community — build and sustain their livelihoods.

Economically - You’re keeping money local. A larger portion of your spending stays within the community, supporting jobs and other nearby businesses.

Personally - You’re supporting someone’s dream. Many small business owners pour their time, passion, and savings into their work. You often get personalized service. Small businesses can tailor their products or services to individual customers.

Culturally and socially - You help maintain local character. Independent businesses contribute to the unique flavor and culture of a town or neighborhood. You strengthen community ties. Owners and employees often build genuine relationships with customers.

Practically, this can look like:

• Shopping at a local boutique instead of a big-box store.
• Eating at a family-owned restaurant rather than a chain.
• Hiring a local tradesperson or freelancer.
• Sharing or reviewing their business online to help them grow.

We understand, many locals have used the bigger corporations for many years. It’s hard to take the first step but we can guarantee to give you the best of care and go above and beyond for all of our family’s.

To our lovely, loyal clients thanks for trusting in us and feel free to share this post.

🎄🎄2025’s memory tree 🎄🎄

It’s becoming a tradition that we hang a tag for everyone who’s been in our care for that year! ❤️

Everyone who we’ve looked after and that we’ve had in our care, has had a tag written out for them and hung onto the tree ❤️

Of course, our families are more than welcome to come in themselves to hang their own memory tag whether they’ve been in our care or not 🏷️❤️

If you would like to come in, please drop us a message or give us a call on (0191) 3897245 ❤️

In Loving Memory of Beverley Anne Welch (Bev)

With heavy hearts, we remember Bev, who passed away on the 25th of November 2025 at St. Benedict’s Hospice Aged 59. Bev was a woman known for her incredible sense of humour, her big unforgettable personality, and the way she filled every room with warmth and laughter.

She leaves behind her loving husband Peter, her devoted son Declan, her cherished sisters Deb and Tracey, her nephew Ryan, and her nieces Charlotte and Kirsty. Beverley was also excited to welcome her unborn grandchild, who will grow up hearing stories of just how extraordinary she was.

Bev’s absence will be felt deeply by all who knew her. Her spirit, her jokes, her kindness, and her fierce love for her family will never be forgotten.

She will be greatly missed — but always remembered with love.

The Family would like to invite you to join in a celebration of Bev’s life at Saltwell Crematorium on Friday 12th of December at 1:45pm, All welcome. Bev wanted everyone to wear something colourful and bring a bit of bling to the service. A continuation of the celebration will be held at the Ox & Plough Washington, as Bev said to be the best Karaoke Ever.

We’ve shared this before but it’s always worth a re-share when it pops up!

A beautifully written poem by Darlene Rush hinting at the realities of being a Funeral Director… however, as cliche as it sounds, we genuinely love our jobs and feel it’s a great honour 💙
