MASSAGE V’s MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE 🤷🏼♀️ What’s the difference❓
The main difference between a massage treatment and manual lymphatic drainage (MLD)
👉Massage Treatment: This is a broad term that includes various techniques (such as Swedish, deep tissue, or sports massage) designed to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, reduce stress, and promote relaxation. The pressure used can range from light to deep, depending on the goal of the treatment.
👉Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD): MLD is a gentle, rhythmic, and highly specialised technique designed to stimulate the lymphatic system and encourage the natural drainage of lymph fluid. It is used to reduce swelling (edema), improve immune function, and support post-surgical recovery.
ℹ️ This is NOT a massage treatment Unlike traditional massage, MLD involves very light, repetitive movements that follow the lymphatic pathways to help remove excess fluid and toxins.
ℹ️ The therapist actively works as a manual pump to gently squeeze lymph fluid to the lymph nodes to encourage drainage as well as activating the major drainage areas of the body; thoracic duct and cisterna chyli and the liver.
