MEET THE TEAM MONDAY - MICHELLE
I have been working at Durham County Carers Support as Parent support Coordinator for over 3 years now, after volunteering to fill in the DLA forms with parents. I started off completing the parent Carer needs assessment and now I provide more specialist support for parent Carers. This is bespoke support to what you as the parent need. I think this is the part of my job that I love as everyone is different, and every day is totally different for me.
I started off my career in a specialist provision 1:1 support worker for children with additional needs, this was over 20 years ago, and things were different then. I took a break to have my own family who are now teenagers who will hate me even referring to them. Even though they are my world and I do anything for them, 😊 never too old for a cuddle of their mam.
I have always accessed various training in my own journey as a Parent Carer, understanding Autism, EHCP training, SEN Provision in school, Quality first Teaching, at one point I followed the SENDIASS workers around at every event possible to get my own knowledge for attending meetings and appointments.
I have multiple caring roles within my personal life for family members which is why I applied for this job in the first place. I love being part of such a beneficial organisation and I am grateful for the Masonic Foundation for providing funding for the Parent Carer support. Without this it wouldn’t be possible to support so many Parent Carers.
