🤩Meet Kristin, our specialist physiotherapist who teaches our Postnatal Yoga & Pilates class. Here she tells us why she feels so passionately about the benefits of Yoga and Pilates in postnatal recovery
"Hi! I'm Kristin 🤗
I am a mother of 4 children, and with 13 years between my oldest and my youngest I know the ups and downs of being both a younger and an older mum!
All my children were born via vaginal delivery – and still each time was completely different. I was
lucky enough to not have any tearing or episiotomies, making my recovery easier than for some.
But following my 3rd and my 4th child I had significantly weaker pelvic floor and had to spend time and dedication to re-strengthen so that I can now sneeze again without having to cross my legs!
My whole life I have been into exercise and I have always had an active life style. I started my Yoga
journey some time before my first pregnancy, and I have used Yoga throughout all my pregnancies
and found that it helped me to stay strong and flexible, although my Yoga sessions with a big belly and aching SI joints were significantly different to my pre-pregnancy yoga.
I think that is one of the benefits of both Yoga and Pilates – you can do it whatever levels of fitness and mobility you have as long as you adapt accordingly.
Yoga was also the first exercise I started with postnatally, which helped me to regain fitness for more strenuous exercise.
I have been teaching Yoga for nearly 20 years, and although I am newer to teaching Pilates I used to bring elements of Pilates into my Yoga classes even before I started my Pilates teacher training.
This postnatal class will be focused around Yoga & Pilates, but there will be plenty of adaptions to poses and exercises to suit everyone as you most likely are at different stages both in your postnatal journey and your fitness / Yoga / Pilates journey!
It is aimed to be a relaxed class to help you to
regain strength and flexibility. Babies are welcome to make it easier for you to access the class. I look forward to seeing you in the studio".
