People often ask me what they need for yoga…

COMMITMENT & CONSISTENCY

A yoga mat helps - but I can always loan you one in class.
Comfortable clothes you can move freely in are important too.

But aside from those two things, the biggest thing you need is patience with yourself while you learn… and the commitment to stay consistent while you grow.

For those who don’t know me, I’m Lyndsey. I’ve been teaching yoga here in for 15 years. I’m 46, and my age is relevant because I’m navigating midlife.

Up until now, I’ve always felt most connected to beginners; introducing people to the wonderful lifestyle that yoga can become. But more recently, I’ve realised I have a new forte, a deeper passion, and a brand-new purpose:

Supporting women through midlife and beyond.

Because once you step over this threshold, you do meet a whole new version of yourself. It doesn’t have to be more of a struggle than it already is and it can actually become a positive, empowering experience when you approach it with the right mindset.

From my own experience, I know yoga can make this chapter feel gentler, stronger, and more wholesome.

And that’s what I’m here for now 🤍

What a week!
Yoga every day since Tuesday.
Weight training twice and I've ran twice.
It feels good to feel good and I'm going to celebrate my little wins today.

Happy Sunday!

Yoga is on all week -
Monday 6:15pm Great Sutton VH
Wednesday 6pm Little Stanney Village hall
Thursday 8pm livestream
Friday 10am Livestream
Sunday 10am Livestream

Make a plan for yourself - prioritise sleep, water, good food and the right kind of movement for you right now.
Bags of energy to burn? Then run.
Feeling sluggish? Then walk.
Over 40 - weight training & yoga!
Peri menopausal or menopausal - heavy on the yoga 🤣 and definitely do some breathwork for the nervous system.

I'm prepping for yoga - we start at 10am if you fancy it...

Midlife yoga practitioner, adjusting the practice and making it work.

Right now, that looks like slower mornings and a later start to the day. It means listening to my body more deeply rather than forcing discipline. Don’t get me wrong , discipline, tradition, and structure still matter to me, and I need them at times. But this week, I need softness, rest, something familiar that I didn't have to think about, and not something new that I had to work on mastering, I simply wanted to "be" in each pose and just breath 5 times trusting in what my body is asking for.

Yoga has helped me navigate nearly every stage of my life since I was 15, and it still works its magic. I adapt well to change, I keep a positive mindset, and we live in such an incredible time for information, shared stories, wisdom, and connection, all of which is helping me move through this chapter with more ease and even excitement.

This journey is actually okay. More than okay, I’m enjoying exploring this newly evolving version of myself. I’m enjoying becoming whoever I am becoming.

And through it all, yoga remains the perfect anchor.

Midlife recovery needs a different approach.

I’ve started running again.

I go through phases with cardio — when I crave it, I do it, and when I get bored, I stop. Yoga has always been my constant, alongside hiking, but every now and then I get the urge to run again… even though I forget how hard those first few runs can feel.

Navigating peri menopause, I haven’t had much energy or desire for intense exercise for quite some time, but this year that shifted. The energy returned, the motivation came back, and I’ve decided to go for it while it’s here.

What I am noticing though is that recovery in my 40s feels very different to my 30s. The niggles arrive quicker, tightness lingers longer, and my body needs more support between activities.

After my second run this week, I woke up with tightness in my lower back and inner thighs, so I did a short post-run yoga asana practice, and the difference afterwards was incredible. All the aches removed and I'm ready to run again.

The poses that helped most:
• Low Lunge
• Downward Dog
• Cat-Cow
• Forward Fold
• Seated Twist
• Shoulder Stand

If you’re becoming more active again and want to keep your body mobile, strong, and injury-free, yoga can make such a difference.

DM me for practice links if you’d like support with recovery and mobility.

There’s also an Ashtanga livestream tonight at 6pm and tomorrow at 10am — both are brilliant for preparing the body for weekend activities and training.
