For the first time, parents can now get their 2 and 3 year olds vaccinated at local pharmacies.

Flu isn’t just a heavy cold – it can make young children seriously unwell, sometimes badly enough to need hospital care.

Vaccination is the best way to shield them. It’s safe, effective and often given as a quick, painless spray up the nose.

Search ‘NHS flu vaccine’ for more information.

🏡 Ready to get home and back to what you love?

Did you know that going home from hospital as soon as it’s safe helps you recover faster? The longer you stay in a hospital bed, the harder it can be to get moving again, so let’s work together to get you home, where you’ll feel most comfortable.

Here’s how you can help speed up your recovery:
✨ Ask questions
✨ Share information
✨ Follow the advice of your doctors and nurses.

Not sure what to ask? Start with these:
❔ What’s the matter with me?
❔ What happens next?
❔ What can I do to get better?
❔When might I go home?

Let’s get you home, healthy and happy, as soon as possible! 💙

This week saw a very special moment at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Geoffrey Foy, who turns three this week, rang the treatment bell to mark the end of his two-year leukaemia treatment 💙

Geoffrey, who was first diagnosed in August 2023 and has received shared care from both the Countess of Chester Hospital and Alder Hey , this week became the very first patient to ring the new treatment bell in the hospital’s new Women and Children's building.

In the past, families could hire a bell to mark the end of treatment, but Geoffrey’s mum, Steph, wanted to do something more permanent and she helped source a bell for our hospital, as a way of saying thank you — and Geoffrey had the honour of being the first to ring it!

Steph said: “The shared treatment Geoffrey received was just amazing — everyone did everything they could to look after him. Last year he was very ill and spent his birthday in hospital, and they did so much to make it special. I wanted to do something nice to say thank you.”

Staff presented Geoffrey with a certificate and a superhero cape, which he proudly wore as he rang the bell three times to loud cheers, before heading off to the children’s ward Christmas party.

A huge milestone for a very brave little boy 💙

Winter can be a challenging time, especially for older neighbours, friends, or family members.

Here’s how you can help:

🎁 Check Supplies: Make sure they have enough food for a few days in case bad weather keeps them indoors
🎁 Stay Warm & Safe: If they need to go out, encourage sturdy shoes with a good grip, and a scarf around the mouth to protect them from the cold air, and to reduce their risk of chest infections
🎁 Prescriptions Check In: Help them get any medicines they need before the holidays or bad weather hits.

If they need help when GP practices or pharmacies are closed, NHS 111 is available online at 111.nhs.uk for advice on what to do and where to go.

Your kindness could make all the difference this festive season. 🌟
