Yesterday for our Burns Night celebrations residents did some themed colouring which promoted conversation about holidays to Scotland, what Burns Night is and how it is celebrated, specifically in Scotland. We also celebrated Burns Night with traditional food, sharing Scottish Shortbread with a cup of tea and having a small taster of Haggis before dinner 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Today we celebrated the Nigerian culture. We learned the meaning behind the flag, green for agriculture and wealth, white for unity and peace. Tosin showed us a beautiful traditional dance sharing with us the importance of the Sekere, a traditional musical instrument used for joyful celebrations and the Irukere (horsetail in English) which is used by kings and queens for greetings but also to represent authority. We finished our Nigerian Celebration with some homemade Bean Cake!

For New Years Eve residents enjoyed a party with nibbles, games, a toast to the New Year and a countdown watching fireworks with our ‘sparklers’. On New Years Day we spent some time chatting about memories of new year, what resolutions people might have previously set and did a word search, quiz and crossword.
Some lovely celebrations had all round!
