The Greenhouse, a Nurture group for ages 11-24 is launching in Jan 2023 on Thursday mornings during term time (yes, we’ll work it out with their school)
Myself and are qualified counsellors who have a long history of working with young people. We know that times can feel tough for some young people and so we are creating a group to provide a safe and calm space for those who could do with a bit of extra support.
This small group (we are going to limit it to 6 young people) is for this who struggle with issues like low mood, anxiety, going to school, making friends, etc. We will offer activities that might help support growth in some of these areas but there will also just be space to relax and chill out for those who simply just need to rest.
There will be no limit on how long they can be a part of this group. If they want to be in it from yr 7-9 and they are able to do that then we are happy to have them.
We have been working hard to create this safe space for young people and we can’t wait to meet our group in Jan.
If you want to know anymore about this or you have a suggestion of who we can share this group with then let us know. We would love to hear from you!

Hello friends,

It’s been a while since my face popped up on my grid but I am aware that there are a few new friends over on this little corner of the internet so I wanted to say hello and introduce myself a bit.

I live and work in Chesterfield which is a town on the edge of the beautiful Peak District right in the centre of England.

I am a qualified counsellor and wellness practitioner. I work only with women and girls, journeying alongside them them as they discover more about themselves, others and the world around them.

I would call myself person centred therapist who is trauma informed and somatically informed in how I work. All that means is that I believe that my clients of the experts of themselves and my role in our therapeutic relationship is to provide space where they can connect with their body, with their experiences and their story in the hope of finding more about who they are and finding contentment within themselves.

I adore what I do and who I work with.

I am always open to chatting with anyone that is thinking about starting therapy so if you are interested in finding more about who I am, what I do and how I work then get in touch.

Self care is no longer optional.

Perhaps it never was but now, more than any other time in recent history, we cannot afford to forget ourselves.

I realise that this might sound jarring to those of us who have the privilege of reading this post from a space that has heating, food, a safe place to sleep without the threat of war on our doorstep.

How can my self care be a priority when our global neighbours are suffering horrors that no human should ever know?

I will tell you why.

Because our global neighbours cannot be the recipients of our apathy or our fatigue. Our global neighbours need our anger which, by the way, is an energetic state. We cannot be angry if we don’t have the energy to be. And we must get angry. Our anger will help us to keep our eyes focussed, our minds sharp and our hearts open to what is happening in the world.

If we fail to look after ourselves, to do what is necessary to keep well within our bodies then we fail to look after others.

You have heard the metaphor of the oxygen mask right? The idea that on an aeroplane it is advised that, in the event of an emergency, you put on your own oxygen mask before you help anyone else with theirs. It is important that we breathe in that deep, life giving air that will fill our lungs. Without which we cannot breathe, without which we do not have the sustenance to then help others with theirs.

My darling, you need to take that deep breath. Whatever that means for you. Now is the time to invest in that which sustains you. We need you to be at your best. We need your capacity, your resources, your energy and your anger.

So self care is no longer optional. For the sake of others, it is crucial.

A little step by step guide for anyone that is curious about the process of setting up 1:1 counselling sessions with me.

Hopefully this short guide should answer some of your questions about what to expect. Please do feel free to drop me a line if you are interested in finding out more.

All therapists will have their own way of setting up the counselling relationship but generally you can expect a format similar to this with all therapists/organisations.

If you female, you live in the UK and you are thinking about starting (or restarting) your therapy journey then my hope is that this guide provides a little more clarity around what will happen in the first few interactions and will give you that boost of confidence to take that next step.

Hi there - I am Michelle. There are a few new people around here so I thought I would introduce myself again and let you know about bit about who I am and what I do.

I know we are all busy and don’t have time to read through long text so here are THE MOST important things to know about me.

* I live in Derbyshire with my little family. My home and my family are my deepest joy and we bumble around together enjoying slow days and simple pleasures.

* Every Saturday we get pastries for breakfast. I am putting this up with one of the most important values of my life. Saturday = pastry day.

* Also coffee. Coffee is one of the greatest loves of my life.

* I love people. I have spent my whole life being with people and journeying with them through life - a lot of my work has been with young people but these last few years I have moved towards working with women.

* I am a counsellor and it has been my deepest privilege to start my own private practice this year working with women who are curious about learning more about themselves and the experiences that have shaped them. These spaces I share with these women have become some of my most favourite spaces to be in. Something magical happens when women have the room to be their free and full selves and I can’t believe I get to be in this journey of discovery and healing with them. I am grateful every day for this privilege.

* I still have some times available for 1:1 support so if you identify as female and you are interested in hearing more about how I work then please do get in touch and we can book in a 20min phone/video call for you to find out more.

* I work virtually and can also offer in person sessions from my counselling space in Wirksworth, Derbyshire. For more info, dm me or visit my website - www.Michelle-leeder.com

I am convinced that what we are looking for can be found in the slow.

Imagine how different our communities would be if we lived out the value of slowing down. I use the word value intentionally because in this face-paced, capitalist, western society we have to be intentional in choosing it. But when we do we will begin to notice shifts and changes within us which will ripple out into the world.

Imagine a slow curriculum which cultivated curiosity rather than delivering content that has been decided by those who have little or no connection to school communities.

Imagine political decisions that weren’t made from a place of mindless reaction instead were made with the fullness of wisdom that comes from slowing down enough to connect with themselves and the collective community.

Imagine work places that valued care over content and quality over profit.

Imagine homes where time together was given more priority than full timetables and where unrealistic expectations were thrown to one side and instead replaced with the kind of meaningful relationship that can only come from taking intentional time together.

Imagine the impact on the earth if, instead of striving for more we began striving for slow - slow fashion, slow food, slow news/journalism, slow walks, slow travel, slow consumption of all kinds.

Imagine being fully present in our own body enough to be able to understand and attend to our needs with gentleness and compassion.

Imagine a Christmas season where instead of busy, heightened, anxious people running around trying to manage all the internal and external expectations, we were able to enjoy the single slow, meaningful moments that can quickly pass us by if we are constantly just focussed on the next thing.

I deeply believe that all change starts in the slow. My hope for us this season is we notice the gentle, calm spaces that are offered to us and allow ourselves to be there for a while, taking what we need and allowing the peace of these space to nourish our whole body, mind and soul.

Also - is the coolest of all the people so there’s that as well.
