Great news - we will be able to give COVID vaccinations to those eligible patients who have booked into one of our 3 flu clinics and for those eligible patients who are housebound.

PLEASE NOTE that the criteria has changed.

For Autumn 2025, COVID-19 vaccination will be offered to:
adults aged 75 years and over
residents in care homes for older adults
individuals who are immunosuppressed aged 6 months and over - this is not a straightforward area and eligibility has been reduced.

This blog post was reviewed and updated in September 2025. When autumn comes, protection from any earlier COVID-19 vaccination you may have had will be starting to wane. For those who are more likely to become seriously ill from COVID-19,

As part of saving money in the NHS, the Government require us to reduce the number of SMS we send from October 1st.

IF YOU CAN, please register for the NHS App and TURN ON notifications. This means that our messages to you will come through to your phone in the same manner as an SMS (as a "push notification").

ALSO - please ensure we have your personal email. We will have to send many longer messages this way.

PLEASE DO NOT WORRY, if you do not have an email or a smart phone, we are working hard to ensure that our communication channels are as efficient and effective for you also.

From 1st October 2025, the Government has said that all GP surgeries must offer unlimited routine online requests for patients from 8-6.30pm.

We have carefully discussed this, both within our practice and with other local GP surgeries. Like them, we feel that bringing in this change without extra staff or resources would be unsafe for patients and unsustainable for practices. Unfortunately, this would create very long and potentially harmful waiting lists to see your GP. These changes have been brought about without the relevant safeguards in place for patients.

Our top priority is always your safety and the quality of care you receive. We do not believe we can guarantee this under the new system as it currently stands.

Together with other local surgeries, we have written to our local NHS (ICB) to explain our concerns. This is also a national issue, and the British Medical Association (BMA) is continuing discussions with the Government to try to agree on a safer and more workable way forward.

We are keeping in close contact with our patients, our Patient Participation Group, and our practice team as this develops.

This has been a very difficult decision for us, but at the moment we feel we have no other choice.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Week, 15th - 19th September

This Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Week, we’re focusing on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) – a serious autoimmune condition that’s often misunderstood. RA isn’t just “aches and pains”. It’s chronic, it’s painful, and it can affect every part of a person’s life.
Let’s dispel the myths, raise awareness and support the millions living with RA every day.

Since the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) was founded in 2001, one of our key aims has been to increase public understanding and awareness of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) as distinct from other forms of arthritis.

Youth Mental Health Day, 19th September

Did you know one in five 8-25-year-olds have a mental health disorder? Yet, only 40% are able to access effective treatment? This year’s Youth Mental Health Day theme is ‘Share Support’. Studies show that peer support can be associated with reductions in depression and anxiety in young people, and when young people share their own coping strategies and recommendations, it not only empowers them but also provides others with relatable, practical tools to help with their challenges.

Join us on 19th September: this year’s YMHD theme, Share Support, encourages us all to connect, share, and access clinically-informed mental health resources.

Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month, 1st - 30th September

September is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month. During the month, charities raise awareness of gynaecological cancers, which include ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, uterine cancer, va**nal cancer and vulval cancer.
Ovarian cancer is often overlooked, misunderstood or misdiagnosed, currently with a shockingly low survival rate, and it’s time to turn this around. (Use some of these great assets in your posts: https://ovarian.org.uk/get-involved/campaigns/raise-awareness/)

Each year in the UK, over 22,000 women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer, and early diagnosis is key to improving outcomes.
If you’ve noticed symptoms that aren’t normal for you, it’s worth getting checked. These symptoms aren’t usually cancer, but it’s important to identify any changes in your own body.
Unusual va**nal bleeding or discharge, including any bleeding after the menopause
Persistent bloating, feeling full more quickly or nausea
A persistent itch, lump or changes to the vulval skin or va**na
Unexplained lower back, abdominal or pelvic pain
You can book online, call our team or ask at reception.

Back to school

After a long summer, it can be difficult to settle back into the routine of early wake-ups and getting back to school. There are a few tips you can follow to help make it a little easier.
Establish a sleep routine before school starts
Always eat a good breakfast
Try to get some exercise
Prepare uniforms, bags and books the night before
Discuss any emotions
The first day is always the hardest but after a few days, they will soon find their feet. Find more helpful advice here:https://www.southwestyorkshire.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/CAMHS-going-back-to-school.pdf

If your child is transitioning from primary school to secondary, or starting school for the first time, this can be an especially anxious time. Help them adjust confidently by taking them to shop for their uniform and supplies, practising the routine before the day, visiting the school, and talking about any challenges they might have.

Extreme temperatures

This summer we’ve experienced temperatures far exceeding previous years, and it doesn’t look set to end anytime soon. Hot weather can cause health issues in the young and vulnerable, but it’s important for everyone to take a few steps to keep cool when the heat rises:
Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day; don’t wait until you’re thirsty
Limit alcohol intake
If you’re going to do a physical activity, plan to do this during times of the day when it’s cooler
Stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day
Keep your home cool by closing windows and curtains in rooms that face the sun
Keep an eye on those around you for any signs of heat exhaustion.
