Mr George William Tomlinson of Dunston has passed away peacefully at Chesterfield Royal Hospital aged 91.

Born in Old Whittington he was a resident locally all is life.

Working from 18 years of age George carried out National Service for 3 years in Cyprus and Egypt.
From 1955-1959 he worked at Old Whittington Wagon Repairs.
Then working for East Midlands Electricity Board for 38years, from 1959 until his retirement in 1997.

George’s hobbies and interests were DIY, woodwork, cricket and swimming at Nuffield Health; only stopping a year ago at 90 years old. He also loved spending time with his family and many friends, sharing a joke, a coffee or beer and cake with them.

George leaves his wife Kathleen Joyce Tomlinson (Joyce) Son Philip, 2 Granddaughters Vicky and Rachel, 2 Great Grandsons Harry and Archie and Grandson-in-laws Tom and Chris.
He was predeceased by brother Jim (James).
And also leaves behind his Sister Vivian, Daughter-in-law Fay.

His funeral service takes place at 3pm at Newbold Parish Church, St John’s, St Johns Rd, Chesterfield S41 8PE
Followed by Chesterfield Crematorium at 3:40pm on Wednesday 17th December 2025.

People are welcome to attend both the church and crematorium service, but the family understand if this is not possible.

George’s family requests anyone attending the service to wear something light or bright in colour.

PLEASE READ - Thank you Jonathan 🙏

Please join us in wishing Funeral Celebrant Jonathan Reeve luck.

From January Jonathan will begin training to become a Priest with the Orthodox Church.

This has been his dream for a long time so as his friend we are so pleased for him.

With this great news comes a change for us all.

The religious restrictions mean he will no longer be able to conduct services at a crematorium so his 20 plus years at the front of the crematorium chapel will come to an end in a few weeks.

He will still be available part time in different locations and Chapels in Brimington, Staveley, Derby Road and Whittington Moor aswell as graveside burials and our Chapel at our Whittington Moor Funeral Home.

Mr David Anthony Woodward of Wingerworth has passed away at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, on
November 7, 2025, aged 75.

Born in Chesterfield and a resident of Chesterfield for 43 years, having spent 32 years in Norfolk. David was a retired quality engineer, working across various companies in Derbyshire, Norfolk and Surrey, until 2014.

His interests included sudoku, walking cafe visits, holidays and motor racing.

David leaves his wife Brenda, son Paul, grandchildren Jake and Scott, brother Michael, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

His funeral service takes place on Wednesday, December 10, Chesterfield Crematorium, at 11.30am.
