John David Hole known as Jack of Chatsworth Lodge Nursing Home has passed away at Chesterfield Royal Hospital aged 85 years
Jack lived at 2a Hoole Street all his life until he went to live at Chatsworth Lodge in 2020.
Jack attended Hasland Infant and Junior Schools and then Chesterfield Grammar School.
He started work at Williamthorpe Pit in 1956,transferring to Markham when Williamthorpe closed. He worked in various roles ,becoming a Pit Deputy in 1979.
He took early retirement when the pit closed in 1992. He was very fortunate to be on holiday when the Markham pit disaster occurred in 1973 as he should have been on shift that morning.
In his spare time, Jack loved to travel,especially in America and Canada, getting to know both countries very well.
He was a keen football player when young and remained an avid supporter of Chesterfield Football club. He was also a keen darts and dominoes player,competing in teams for the New Inn at Winsick and the Devonshire Arms.
A bachelor,Jack leaves his brother Peter(USA), an uncle and many cousins.
His funeral takes place on Thursday September 18th at 11.30 at Chesterfield Crematorium. His ashes will be interred later in the grave of his parents, Flo and Reg.
