Trying to change our habits—and rewire our brains for the better—is far more challenging than it first appears.

Throughout my career as a physiotherapist, I’ve seen just how powerful our minds and thoughts are in the healing process. The journey can take us to many different places emotionally. It often begins with disappointment and frustration toward our bodies, followed by the ongoing struggle with pain. Even as healing begins, apprehension can linger, making it difficult to fully trust our bodies again. But gradually, with patience and persistence, confidence returns.

Healing isn’t just physical—it’s mental and emotional too. And while the process can feel slow and uncomfortable at times, every small step forward matters. Keep showing up for yourself, because lasting change doesn’t happen overnight—but it does happen.

If your training only happens in straight lines, you’re not preparing your body for the way it actually moves.

Rotation isn’t an extra—it’s essential.

Your thoracic spine needs to rotate to help distribute load through the shoulders. Your hips need rotation to both absorb force and generate it.

Your body depends on rotation to transfer energy efficiently from one side to the other.

When that ability is missing, you don’t just lose mobility—you lose movement options. And when options disappear, another area usually compensates.

That’s when the same spots start feeling irritated, overworked, or constantly ā€œtight,ā€ no matter how much stretching or strengthening you do.

This isn’t about adding more work—it’s about restoring what should already be available.

Note: If this is your first time trying this movement, begin with your bottom knee on the ground. And ensure you have warmed up. All exercises feature should only be considered if you have had prior assessment and approved by your clinician.

I wrote this as much for myself as anyone else. There have been plenty of moments where I’ve wanted to give up—on personal goals, career goals, training, and trying to stay consistent while dealing with everything else life throws at you. It’s hard to stay patient when progress feels slow and even harder when setbacks make you question everything.

But I’ve learned that the difficult points often build the most in us. We build resilience, discipline, humility, and trust in the process. Sometimes progress doesn’t look exciting—it looks like showing up tired, adapting when things hurt, starting again after setbacks, and refusing to quit on yourself.

If you’re feeling this right now, keep going. Adjust when needed, rest when needed, but don’t walk away from something meaningful just because it’s challenging. The version of you on the other side will thank you for staying the course. šŸŖ½šŸ¤āœØ
