A pub Sunday lunch in Wales recently left 43 people ill with food poisoning โ all caused by Clostridium perfringens.
Outbreaks like this often happen when large groups are served at once, and food isnโt kept at safe temperatures. Itโs a powerful reminder of how essential proper food safety really is.
โก๏ธ Real training teaches you how to manage the danger zone, control bacteria, store and handle food safely, and keep customers protected.
A quick 20-minute online โLevel 2โ course?
โ Not enough.
We once had a learner whoโd completed one just weeks earlierโฆ and they remembered nothing.
We deliver proper Ofqual-regulated food safety training, shorter topic sessions, and annual refreshers โ all available in-person or via trainer-led virtual classrooms.

I know I said yesterday that I'd cover children yesterday and adults today - and then I decided to simply make this into a resource!
So here is a list of some of the organisations out here in the Uk that one can go to for help and support.
Where phone numbers and email addresses are given, they are for their helplines.
Please let me know if you know of any other organisations, and we can add them to this list!

I thought I'd show some good resources around Grief and loss during this .
Today, I'll cover children and young people.
In tomorrow's post we'll look at support for adults.
*Child Bereavement UK*
covers not only when a child or young person has experienced a loss, but also the loss of a child or young person within the family: https://www.childbereavementuk.org/
There will be more organisations out there. Please mention them in the comments!

Did you know that giving to others boosts your own well-being?
Kindness isnโt only good for the people around us โ itโs incredibly powerful for our own mental health too.
Hereโs what the research tells us:
โจ Cooperative acts activate the brainโs reward centres
โจ Contributing to our community strengthens our sense of purpose
โจ Volunteering brings more positive emotions and meaning, especially in older adults
โจ Supporting others is linked with longer, healthier lives
And when it comes to kindness:
๐ Helping, sharing and giving increase happiness and life satisfaction
๐ Team-oriented behaviours enhance self-worth
๐ Even ONE act of kindness a week can make a real difference
Kindness truly comes full circle. ๐ฟ
Giving is part of one of the Five Steps to Wellbeing.
Join our Five Steps to Mental Wellbeing workshop and learn how to apply these Steps into your daily life!
And remember, you can do this workshop - and many more - for free when you join our SkillUp! program!

๐ Did you know? Acts of kindness boost your wellbeing!
Helping others isnโt just good for them โ itโs GREAT for you.
๐ฅ Cooperation feels naturally rewarding
๐ฅ Even one act of kindness a week can lift your wellbeing
๐ฅ Helping others builds purpose and connection
๐ฅ Volunteers often feel more joy and meaning
๐ฅ Giving can even support a longer, healthier life
When you help others, you help yourself too!
The Five Steps to Mental Wellbeing:
๐ค Connect
๐โโ๏ธ Be Active
๐ Keep Learning
๐ซด Give
๐ฟ Take Notice
Want to learn how to use these steps in your own life โ or to support others?
Iโd even say mental health is more important than physical health.
๐ Good mental health helps you cope when physical health isnโt great.
๐ When both are struggling, everything becomes so much harder.
๐ And even when your physical health is fine, itโs your mental wellbeing that shapes how you truly feel.
๐ And yes โ chronic pain or long-term illness can absolutely affect mental health too.
Want to strengthen your mental wellbeing?
Want to support others?
Know someone who would benefit from these courses?
Our upcoming Mental Health & Wellbeing courses are open to the public โ and we can run sessions for your organisation too.

Are heart attacks and cardiac arrest the same thing ๐?
Many people think so - but is that correct โ
A heart attack occurs when one of the arteries feeding the heart itself becomes blocked - the part of the heart that is being fed by that artery, dies.
A cardiac arrest is an electrical problem โก. The heart has a very fine-tuned mechanism. An electrical stimulus is passed from the sinus node (sometimes called pacemaker node), and to the other parts of the heart, so it all works in tandem, the way it should.
A cardiac arrest occurs where other parts of the heart create the electrical stimulus instead and the heart starts 'quivering' and can't pass the blood around the body. Or, no electrical stimulus is created at all. Where is still an electrical stimulus, an AED can shock the heart in the hope that it 'resets' this electrical process.
I often liken it to an orchestra. The conductor makes sure that everyone plays the right notes ๐ถat the right time โฒ๏ธ. But when the conductor stops, all the musicians start to do their own thing, and instead of beautiful music, you end up with a cacophony.
So, as you can see, heart attacks and cardiac arrests are two very different things. A heart attack will often *lead* to a cardiac arrest though.

Not sure which First Aid course you or your team need?
Youโre not alone โ with so many courses available, it can get confusing fast!
So weโve made a simple resource to help you work out exactly what youโre looking for.
Be the first to know and let us send you an email when Pochat Training posts news and promotions. Your email address will not be used for any other purpose, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
We also do bespoke training specific to the needs of your your own business or organisation.
Youโll be able to apply these skills, both in the workplace and in general life, after completing the course, making everyone safer. And HSE, Ofsted or CQC boxes can be ticked off.
Ever sat in a boring training session? How much did you learn in those? How much of that learning did you retain, and were you able to apply that knowledge in daily life?
We believe that learning should be fun, engaging, interactive and varied. Whatever the subject, you need to be engaged in order to learn effectively.
This is exactly what will happen when you join one of our training sessions. You will be fully engaged, you will learn in a supported and enabled way, you will actually enjoy yourself and have a bit of fun while learning about those more serious, and difficult, subjects.
Many of our courses are now available online, via tutor-led virtual classrooms and webinars, so you can train safely, knowing that you and your staff are safe from the virus, saving you travel costs and staff time besides.
