Given the busy, complex and stressful world we live in, it is not unsurprising we can find ourselves putting the importance of caring for our health and wellness on the 'back-burner'. As a result, at times, we may experience a build-up of stress and tension within our bodies, which if not addressed, can lead to numerous well recognised associated problems, difficulties and even illnesses: physically, emotionally and mentally. During my previous career as a psychologist (no longer practising), in addition to personally, I am more than aware of how past traumas and difficult life experiences, and the resulting impacts, can lead to long-lasting effects upon our body, minds, emotions, interpersonal relationships and general sense of well-being. Having benefitted greatly from the holistic effects of Reiki myself, this ignited my passion to continue to help others by training to become a Reiki Practitioner. Similar to many who go on to practice Reiki, I feel it is my duty and honour to assist others through the incredible blessing of sharing the gift of Reiki that I have had the pleasure of receiving in the past 🙏. Developed in Japan by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century, Reiki has been used and taught in the UK since the late 1900s as a ‘natural healing’ technique. Eastern medicine has for thousands of years utilised such healing techniques, recognising that this Universal Life-Force Energy (Rei-ki) is present in all living things. In addition to its benefits when sought during times of physical, psychological or emotional difficulties, Reiki has a valuable role to play in preventative and health/well-being maintenance. Reiki is a safe, non-invasive, complementary and holistic therapy which should not be viewed as a replacement for conventional medical treatment, but can work safely alongside the majority of traditional healthcare interventions. If there are concerns about physical health issues guidance from a general practitioner should always be initially sought. Reiki works holistically (physically, emotionally and mentally) to promote harmony, balance and enhance a sense of peace within ourselves. Reiki practitioners work with an individual on an ‘energetic’ level helping to ease, shift and release tension, any associated imbalances or ‘blockages’, realigning and balancing the natural flow of our energy, and supporting our body’s own natural healing ability. Evidence of the benefits of Reiki include the reduction of stress and anxiety, calming of the mind, potential pain reduction and enhancing a general sense of well-being. There is nothing that a person needs to do when receiving Reiki other than wear comfortable clothing and relax in one position (typically lying on a treatment couch, or alternatively in a seated position). The Reiki practitioner applies their hands gently to certain positions on the body (or if preferred, Reiki can be performed with no direct physical contact). An individual’s experience of Reiki is unique to them and can also vary from treatment to treatment. In general, most individuals will experience a sense of relaxation or even a deep 'meditative' state. Some may notice changes in temperature during treatment, sensations such as tingling or pulsating, or shifts in emotions or thoughts during treatment. Some individuals may not notice or feel anything at all during the treatment itself. I have the pleasure of being a qualified Reiki Practitioner having received exceptionally high quality, in-person training in the traditional Usui method of Reiki, holding both Level I and Level II certifications. I offer my sincere gratitude and thanks to my Reiki Master and Teacher Sue Malcom, Founder of The Reiki Experience and Friends of Baxter Animal Care, I am forever thankful to you. I take to upmost care in providing a highly professional service and look forward to receiving past and future clients into my tranquil therapy spaces, based both in the Chesterfield (Derbyshire) and Retford (Nottinghamshire) areas. All that is required is a mind open to new experiences. Initial session: £45 which includes a free consultation, 1 hour Reiki treatment, followed by discussion and after-care advice.
