We’re incredibly proud of Rachael Addy from Deangate Care Home-Hill Care, who recently appeared on That's TV South Yorkshire to talk about her upcoming triple fundraiser and the inspiration behind it.

During the interview, Rachael spoke passionately about the residents she supports every day and why fundraising means so much to her. She also shared her personal connection to dementia following her mum’s diagnosis, adding an even deeper meaning to the challenge she is undertaking.

Anyone who knows Rachael will know how dedicated she is to enriching the lives of residents, always going above and beyond to create meaningful experiences and opportunities within the home.

Good luck, Rachael everyone at Hill Care is behind you every step of the way 💙👏

Care homes aren’t what they used to be...

They’re places of friendship, laughter and support when it’s needed most.

We don't view care as giving up independence : for us it's about living well, with the support you need.

Come and see for yourself 💙

If you've started to notice small changes:

Missed meals. Missed medication.

More tired. Less confident.

It’s easy to put it off, but a little support now can make all the difference.

We’re here when you need us 💙

Former rugby coach gets special visit from Huddersfield Giants

The Rugby League club surprised Aden View Care Home-Hill Care resident, and retired coach, Bert McKay with a “really special” visit as well as a VIP match-day invitation!

Bert and care assistant, Anthony Blair attended the Huddersfield Giants versus York City Knights rugby league match.

Two first team players, prop Thomas Burgess and forward Harry Rushton, made the visit to see Albert “Bert” Mackay and, in a separate visit, Giants assistant coach Leroy Cudjoe also dropped in to see Bert, as they have known each other for many years.

Bert trained Leroy at the start of his playing career, during his time with the Huddersfield district representative side. He is one of many players coached by Bert throughout his rugby career, having also worked with future Giants legend Michael Lawrence when he first started playing rugby at Newsome Panthers.

💥 THREE CHALLENGES FOR OUR HILL CARE SUPERHERO! 💥

Rachael Addy, Activities Coordinator at Deangate Care Home, is taking fundraising to breathtaking new heights this June! 🦸‍♀️

After already conquering a skydive even swimming with sharks 🦈, Rachael is pushing herself further than ever before by tackling THREE adrenaline-fuelled challenges in ONE month:

Scaling The O2 Arena
Abseiling down Anfield Stadium
Bungee jumping 140ft from Larpool Viaduct

All to raise vital funds for Deangate residents AND BIADS Barnsley, supporting those living with dementia and their loved ones ❤️

This year’s challenge is especially close to Rachael’s heart following her mum’s recent Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Her courage is inspired by the strength she sees every day:

“If they can face their fears daily, I can face mine.”

We couldn’t be prouder of Rachael’s determination, compassion, and fearless spirit. She embodies everything Hill Care stands for.

Let’s rally behind her and make a difference together! Every donation helps create meaningful experiences for residents and supports families affected by dementia.

Colleagues from Hazelgrove Court Care Home in Saltburn-by-the-Sea spent a night sleeping outdoors to raise money and awareness for homeless armed forces veteran as part ofThe Great Tommy Sleep Out 2026, a national challenge to sleep outside during March in support of former service personnel facing homelessness.

The team included Sharon Lewis, activities coordinator, carers Denise Keeler and Shannon Simpson, domestic worker Debbie Weldon, and cook Donna Buck. They were joined by Pearl Cawley, a veteran champion who volunteers at the home, along with Dave Walker, the brother of one of the team.

The group set-up makeshift beds using cardboard and sleeping bags in the garden at Hazelgrove Court, braving the cold throughout the night to highlight the difficult and often dangerous conditions many veterans face daily, raising £600 for the cause in the process.

Sharon said: “It wasn’t just about giving up a bed for the night, but standing up for the men and women who’ve served our country and now find themselves without a safe place to call home.”

MOD Armed Forces badges presented to Longroyds & Pilling House Care Home’s veterans.

Veterans from the care home were joined by Rural Veterans Hubs Kirklees, a veteran‑led community initiative, and Kirklees Council Cllr Tim Bamford, as well as friends and family for the presentation.

The “HM Armed Forces – Veteran” lapel badges are issued to eligible veterans who have served in the armed forces, as well as war widows and widowers.

Among them was Neil Sykes, 90, who served at RAF Kirkham for two years, where he played cornet in the military band. The highlight of his service was playing the national anthem for Queen Elizabeth II at the inauguration of Scammonden Dam in October 1971.

Fellow resident Elizabeth Martin, 88, also received a veteran badge, as the spouse of Seargent Major Tommy Martin, who served in The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment of the British Army for many years.

RAF veteran Robert Guyan, 84, with his HM Armed Forces Veteran pin and certificate at the Longroyds and Pilling House Care Home veterans coffee morning.

Elizabeth said: “We met at a dance when Tommy was stationed in Northern Ireland, near to where I lived. After we got married, we spent many years travelling the country while he served, living in the married quarters.”

Robert Guyan, 84, received a veterans badge for his service in the RAF as a senior aircraftsman for nine years.

He said: “A lot of things happened in the forces that were classified and we aren’t allowed to talk about them, but I am very proud of my service and thankful for all the places I travelled to and have seen around the world.

“Receiving the veterans pin and certificate means a lot. I know my wife, who has passed away, would be very proud.”
