Grief doesn’t look the way people expect it to.

It’s not linear.
It doesn’t follow neat stages.
And no two experiences are ever the same.

From working as a bereavement counsellor in a hospice, I’ve seen how complex and deeply personal grief really is.

You don’t have to go through it alone.

Grief isn’t just one emotion. It’s layered, personal and it can show up in many different ways. Like a butterfly’s journey, grief moves and transforms over time. It may soften, change shape or return when we least expect it.

Here are some different types of grief:

• Anticipatory grief: the grief experienced before a loss happens, often when someone is seriously ill or when we know a significant change is coming.

• Acute grief: the intense emotions that often come soon after a loss, including shock, sadness, disbelief and longing.

• Complicated grief: when grief feels prolonged or overwhelming and begins to significantly interfere with daily life.

• Disenfranchised grief: grief that isn’t always recognised or validated by others (for example miscarriage or the loss of a pet).

• Cumulative grief: when multiple losses occur close together, layering grief upon grief.

• Delayed grief: when the emotional response to a loss surfaces months or even years later.

• Secondary grief: the additional losses that follow the primary loss, such as changes in identity, routines, relationships or future plans.

• Empathic (or vicarious) grief: the grief we feel for someone else’s loss. When we care deeply about someone who is hurting, we may experience grief alongside them.

• Collective grief: grief shared by a community or society after a large-scale loss or tragedy.

Grief doesn’t follow a straight path and there is no “right” way to experience it. However it shows up for you, it deserves compassion and space.

If you’re struggling with any form of grief and feel ready to explore it in a supportive space, you’re welcome to get in touch to find out more about working with me.

Choosing a therapist can feel like a big decision, especially if it’s your first time considering counselling. Here are a few things that can be helpful to look out for:

• You feel safe, respected and not judged
• They work at your pace and don’t pressure you
• They listen carefully and take your experiences seriously
• They are professionally trained, hold the appropriate qualifications and work ethically
• They encourage openness and honest conversation
• You feel comfortable being yourself with them

Therapy can sometimes be challenging and emotional, it’s natural for difficult feelings to come up when you’re exploring important parts of your life. However, you shouldn’t consistently dread going to sessions or leave feeling significantly worse each time. Even when the work is hard, a good therapeutic space should still feel supportive, safe and containing.

Finding the right therapist can take time and it’s completely okay to explore different options until someone feels like the right fit for you.

Self-care doesn’t always have to be big or transformative.

Sometimes it’s simply pausing for a moment, putting the kettle on and allowing yourself to slow down.☕

We often enter therapy with assumptions shaped by media, stigma or second-hand stories.

Sometimes the barrier isn’t therapy, it’s the story we’ve been told about it.

If you’ve been considering starting therapy, this could be the moment to challenge that narrative. Enquire now to take the first step🌿

Chakras are the body’s energetic centres; seven main points that influence our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. When they’re balanced, energy flows freely and we feel aligned. When they’re blocked, under-active or overactive, we might notice imbalance in mood, health, or inner harmony.

In crystal healing, I work intuitively with the chakras to restore balance and bring your energy back into flow. Here’s a little overview of each one and what it resonates with:

❤️ Root Chakra (Muladhara) – Safety, stability, grounding
Located at the base of the spine, this chakra is all about feeling secure and supported. I use grounding stones like Red Jasper and Hematite to anchor your energy and restore inner strength.

🧡 Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) – Creativity, emotions, sensuality
Found just below the navel, this is the centre of passion and flow. Carnelian or Orange Calcite help release emotional blockages and spark creative energy.

💛 Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) – Confidence, willpower, personal power
Located in the stomach area, this chakra fuels motivation and self-belief. Crystals like Citrine or Tiger’s Eye boost inner strength and self-worth.

💚 Heart Chakra (Anahata) – Love, compassion, emotional healing
At the centre of the chest, it governs our capacity to give and receive love. Rose Quartz and Green Aventurine open the heart and support emotional balance.

💙 Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) – Communication, truth, self-expression
This centre is about speaking your truth and being heard. Blue Lace Agate or Sodalite help clear blockages and encourage honest, confident communication.

💙 Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) – Intuition, clarity, inner wisdom
Located between the eyebrows, this chakra enhances intuition and insight. Lapis Lazuli deepens spiritual awareness and inner guidance.

💜🤍 Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) – Connection, consciousness, higher self
At the crown of the head, this is our link to universal energy and divine wisdom. Clear Quartz, Amethyst and Selenite support spiritual connection and enlightenment.

Today I spent time at the Sculpture Foundation in Goodwood, where the most beautiful singing drifted through the trees.

There’s something profoundly healing that happens when we step out of our busy minds and reconnect with the natural world. After all, nature is medicine.

If you’re feeling stuck, heavy, or disconnected, let nature be part of your healing. Slow down. Step outside. Breathe deeply. Let the earth do what it’s always done: bring you home to yourself.🌱
