The most common question I get from parents isn't about CPR. Or choking. Or burns.
It's this:
'Am I overreacting?'

A mum whose toddler bumped his head and she's not sure if it's serious. A dad whose baby went quiet for a second while eating and he can't stop replaying it. A grandparent who's looking after the kids next week and feels completely out of their depth.

Every single time, I say the same thing:
You're not overreacting. You're paying attention. And that's exactly what your child needs you to do.

The fix isn't to stop worrying — it's to give yourself the knowledge that turns worry into confidence.
That's the whole point of Project CPR. From worried to ready. No fluff, no fear, just the stuff that actually helps.

If you want practical first aid tips from someone who's been on both sides — the paramedic side and the terrified-mum side — join the newsletter. I write it personally, and I answer every reply.

Picture the headline: 'Parent turns back for 30 seconds. Bookshelf topples.'
I don't say that to scare you. I say it because unanchored furniture is one of the top causes of serious injuries in toddlers in the UK. And the fix takes less time than making a cup of tea.
Your child looks at a tall bookshelf and sees a climbing frame. They don't know it could crush them. They just know it's there and it looks like fun.

Metal brackets. Furniture straps. Screwed into the wall. Done.

Our home safety guide covers this and about a dozen other hazards hiding in plain sight — from blind cords (which still cause preventable deaths every year) to 'child-resistant' caps that aren't actually child-proof.

People ask me all the time: 'Why did you start Project CPR?'
The honest answer is that my daughter nearly died. And I was the one who saved her. And even though I'm a paramedic — even though I've done this hundreds of times for other people's children — when it was my child, everything was different.

My hands worked. But my heart was screaming.
After that, I kept seeing the same thing at work: parents who loved their children more than anything in the world, but didn't have the knowledge to act when it mattered. Not because they were bad parents. Because nobody had ever shown them.
That's not okay.

So I built Project CPR. No jargon. No fluff. Just the skills and tools real parents need to act fast and feel confident. From worried to ready — that's our mission.

If you're new here, the best place to start is the free Choking Rescue Blueprint. It's the guide I wish every parent had on their fridge.

My daughter took a dive off a bookshelf at nursery. Second rung. Total face-plant.
The bruise? Impressive. Her mood? Feral. My anxiety? Through the roof.
And even I wasn't sure if it was a concussion.
(It's actually quite subtle in toddlers and babies.)
Here's the thing — about 750 000 kids are admitted to UK hospitals every single year following a knocked noggin. But most head bumps don't need A&E. They just need time, observation, and about 87 extra cuddles.
The tricky bit is knowing which is which.
I wrote a full guide covering the real red flags, the myth about not letting them sleep (it's wrong, by the way), and what healing actually looks like.

It happened on an ordinary afternoon.

Winter was playing in her mud kitchen — happily squishing things, covered in soil, living her best toddler life. Then she proudly handed me a squished red berry.
My heart stopped.

I'm a paramedic. I've seen poisoning cases. And in that moment, none of that mattered. I was just a mum, staring at a berry I didn't recognise, trying not to spiral.

I rinsed her mouth, washed her hands, and began the anxious wait every parent dreads. Nosebleeds. Vomiting. An irregular heartbeat. Two days in hospital.

She recovered. But I'll never forget the guilt and the fear.
That moment is why I wrote a guide to the 10 most common poisonous garden plants in the UK — what they look like, what to do if your child touches or eats one, and simple ways to make your garden safer without ripping everything out.

👉 Read the full guide: https://www.projectcpr.life/parent-first-aid-blog/poisonous-garden-plants-uk-parents-guide

We also made a room-by-room childproofing checklist that includes the garden and outdoor areas. It's the stuff I check in every home I visit as a paramedic.

I'll put my hand up. I've done it.

Boiled the kettle, made a tea, wandered off to sort out whatever chaos was happening in the other room. That mug? Sitting right on the edge of the counter. Right within reach of small, curious, extremely fast little hands.

Every time I come back and find it untouched, I quietly thank my lucky stars.

But here's what I know from 13 years as a paramedic: burns and scalds from hot drinks are the single biggest cause of burn injuries in babies and toddlers in the UK. It happens in a split second. And those first few minutes? They decide everything.

Most parents reach for butter. Or ice. Or toothpaste.
All of those make it worse. (Sorry, Nan. Lovingly, but she was wrong.)

I wrote a full guide — step by step, no jargon — including the 3-hour cooling window most people don't know about, and the stuff you should NEVER put on a burn.
