Simple pleasures, meaningful moments 💛🛍️🍦

Yesterday’s outing was a beautiful reminder that some of life’s greatest joys are found in the simplest of things.

A trip out shopping, the freedom to browse, choose and enjoy everyday routines, followed by a well-deserved ice cream in the sunshine — moments that may seem ordinary, yet mean so much.

For our residents, outings like these are about far more than the destination. They encourage independence, spark conversation, bring back familiar memories and provide that all-important connection with the world around us.

There is something incredibly special about seeing smiles over a favourite shop, debating ice cream flavours, and simply enjoying being out and about together😊

Because sometimes, the little things really are the big things 💙

🌟 Yesterday, we were delighted to host our Dementia Perspective Workshop, welcoming friends and relatives of our residents, as well as professionals from the local community.

🎤 The workshop was expertly delivered by Andrew Wrensch, Connaught Care Collection -Group Training, Learning & Development Manager, whose knowledge, insight, and engaging approach made the session both informative and inspiring.

💙 It was a huge success, and we were so pleased to receive such positive feedback from everyone who attended. The session provided a valuable opportunity to learn more about dementia, improve understanding, and share practical ways to better support those living with the condition.

🧠 One message was clear throughout the afternoon: more events like this are needed. Raising awareness of dementia, understanding the risk factors, and learning how to reduce the risk of developing dementia are so important for individuals, families, and the wider community.

🙏 Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the event such a meaningful and engaging occasion. We look forward to hosting more educational and supportive events in the future.

🎩👗 Waterhaven Place is proud to be a Principal Community Partner of the Dickie Bows & Petticoats Club, founded by the wonderful Dawn Gracie—a wonderful social club for the over-65s, perfect for anyone feeling isolated, new to the area, looking for friendship, or simply wanting a lovely day out. 💙

From laughter and conversation to shared experiences and new friendships, the club truly embodies the spirit of community and belonging. 🤝✨

Our Customer Relations Manager, Cheryl, is one of the volunteers at the club each month, helping to serve tea and sandwiches. ☕🥪 “It’s such a joy to be part of. I love meeting everyone who comes along—there’s always lots of laughter, wonderful conversations, and it’s so rewarding to offer a smile and a chat and to see everyone leaving so happy.”✨

We were delighted to welcome the Stoma Nurses from University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust to our home 💙

They provided valuable training for our team, helping to strengthen our knowledge and confidence in supporting residents with stoma care. It was also a great opportunity for staff to ask questions, share experiences, and learn from their expertise.

We are incredibly grateful for their guidance and ongoing support. It is reassuring to know that they are always just a phone call away whenever we need advice or assistance. 📞

🌸 A Beautiful Afternoon at Waterhaven Place 🌸

We were delighted to welcome our Mother’s Day competition winner, Kate Berisford , who joined us for her luxurious Afternoon Tea alongside a wonderful group of mum friends 🫖🍰

It was such a joy to see them all enjoying the experience together, filled with laughter, great company, and of course plenty of delicious treats! 💐

The group left us the most amazing feedback, and gave special thanks to Rosalba, who looked after them so attentively and made the afternoon truly memorable 🌟

A big well done as well to our fantastic kitchen team, who created the most beautiful and delicious selection of treats for the occasion – they certainly didn’t disappoint! 👏

Moments like these are what make Waterhaven Place so special 💕

🎬 Cinema Club – Friday 24th April at 2.30pm 🍿

Our next screening is coming up, and we’re showing a recent family favourite with Paddington, the most loveable bear in London!

A young Peruvian bear with a passion for all things British travels to London in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone at Paddington Station, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had imagined--until he meets the kind Brown family, who read the label around his neck ('Please look after this bear. Thank you.') and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist.

More than activities… a sense of purpose and belonging 💛

At , our monthly clubs are about so much more than simply filling the day... they’re about connection, independence, shared interests and meaningful moments.

Each club has its own story, its own purpose, and most importantly… its own community!

🍻 Pub Club – A firm favourite! Getting out into the community, enjoying a drink, sharing laughs and maintaining that sense of independence we all value as we all share our stories.

🧶 Knitting Club – A beautiful initiative led by one of our residents, creating handmade blankets for the Neo-Natal Unit at St. Richard’s Hospital. A true example of purpose, kindness and giving back.

📚 Book Club – A space to share stories, opinions and perspectives, sparking conversation and connection through a love of reading.

🛍️ Shopping Club – Supporting independence and normal daily living, giving residents the opportunity to get out, choose their own items and enjoy everyday routines, as well as helping us to select the prizes for our game-based activities 😅

🧱 Lego Club (coming soon!) – Led by our superstar Keith, this exciting new addition will encourage creativity, focus and a bit of playful competition! We're so looking forward to start this new venture!

These clubs help nurture friendships, confidence and a strong sense of identity, proving that life at Waterhaven Place is full of opportunities to stay engaged, inspired and connected.

Party like it’s the 80’s! 🕺🎶✨

We had an absolute blast at Sage House’s Disco Party last weekend — and what a throwback it was!

An afternoon packed with dancing, iconic tunes and making new friends, as the DJ spun some true 80’s masterpieces that had us all on our feet in no time 💃🕺

Of course, we made sure to make the most of the props — because no disco is complete without a bit of sparkle and flair! ✨😄

A huge thank you to Sage House by Dementia Support for hosting such a fun and memorable event — we kept on humming the tunes!😂

The power of connection across generations 💛🎨

There’s something truly special about bringing different generations together — and yesterday was a perfect example of just how meaningful those moments can be.

We were delighted to welcome children from the Teddy Wilf's Nursery School to , who joined our residents in painting beautiful bird boxes for our garden. What started as a creative activity quickly became something much more… filled with laughter, curiosity and genuine connection☺️

Intergenerational activities like these have such a positive impact. They help to boost mood, reduce feelings of loneliness, encourage communication and bring a wonderful sense of purpose to our residents. At the same time, children gain so much — building confidence, empathy and forming meaningful bonds with older generations.
The room was full of smiles, stories and teamwork — a lovely reminder that connection has no age!

We can’t wait to see our colourful bird boxes in the garden… and to welcome our little helpers back again soon! 🐦🌿

Visitors to the Later Life Living Festival can expect friendly conversations 🤝, hands-on demonstrations 🛠️, pamper sessions 💆‍♀️, plus practical guidance tailored to later life needs 📘💡

As a special bonus, attendees are invited to enjoy a classic movie screening 🎬🍿 at Chichester Cinema before the festival begins – the perfect nostalgic start to the day 💫

The event will also welcome our local MP Jess Brown-Fuller 🏛️, giving visitors the opportunity to meet and chat informally with their local Member of Parliament in a relaxed, community-focused environment 😊
