Ben Jackson Counselling and Coaching

Ben Jackson Counselling and Coaching Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, Lecturer, and Coach. MBACP Registered NCPS Accred. To reach out into the unknown is a good definition of bravery.

And as you’re reading these words, I believe that you are, like many others, truly a brave soul. You may have a clear idea of what is affecting your life, or you may be searching for help, understanding, and a place to work through what you’re feeling and thinking. It is my conviction that talking therapy, coaching, offers you that space.

For those who feel their needs are less important than others, it’s perhaps worth reminding ourselves that when we do focus on ourselves we may also enable others to feel able to shine too.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. … Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. It’s not just in some of us but in all of us… And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Marianne Williamson

"I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

- Frank Herbert, Dune

“Therapy is not an intellectual or rational process. Nor is it easy. Therapy is an experiential process made up of excitement, discouragement, pain, and joy, markers along the journey of personal growth. Therefore, as you may imagine, it takes great courage.”

If you bring forth that which is within you,
Then that which is within you
Will be your salvation.

If you do not bring forth that which is within you,
Then that which is within you
Will destroy you.

– The Gnostic Gospels

My Mission Statement

I've always been fascinated in why we do what we do. Why do we make certain choices? Why do we behave in a certain way? And importantly, is this all predetermined or can we actually change the course of our thinking?

As a teenager I used to spend hours reading in the local bookstore and read a variety of books, confident that amongst the pages I'd have some semblance of an answer. It was only when I came to coaching that I could finally thread all the pieces together.

Coaching, mentoring, change work (whichever term you want to call it) has been a dominant part of my life, well before I becoming a coach. Having been blown away by Dale Carnegie's book, How to Win Friends and Influence People, at the age of 17 I've realised that we can change patterns of behaviour. That anxiety and stress can be redirected and that the mind/body isn't separate but one unified system. Ultimately that we are not fixed, we can change, we can be more than we are and are capable of fulfilling our potential. And very often it can be achieved in minutes and hours, not days and years - this is the advantage of using both hypnotherapy and NLP, as well as modern coaching techniques and strategies.
