With water levels continuing to rise, familiar routes can change quickly. Increased flow means your usual gentle paddle could soon put you beyond your paddling capabilities. Debris in the water can also create entanglement hazards.

Keep safe by ⬇️

✅ Checking water levels before heading out
✅ Being aware of new obstacles and hazards in the water - many may be hidden below the surface
✅ Avoid any splashes to the face, and thoroughly wash your hands and face after paddling — water quality may be reduced after heavy rain
✅ Postponing your paddle if conditions are not safe

Paddleboarding in winter is so much fun! The rivers have so much more flow with the additional rainfall. They develop eddies, boils and flows that require a completely different set of skills to navigate. Learning to read the water is so important if you want to paddle upstream. It's a lot of hard work if you don't understand where to find the slack water.

These ladies joined us for She Can Be Active sessions over the summer and are now having a great time finding out how to use the water to their advantage. They are becoming very proficient paddleboarders and they'll be ready to try paddling white water before the end of this season ❤️
