Jo Kitts Yoga Private and public classes held in Chippenham, Marshfield and surrounding areas. Blending traditiona

I teach hatha yoga, the asana (movement) part of my classes tends to be slow(ish) moving and alignment focused. Classes can be challenging, stimulating, or soft and nurturing depending on the circumstances. A human biologist by training I take a pretty down to earth approach and I am particularly fascinated with the effects that the practices can have on our physiology in helping to maintain physical integrity, support the immune system and calm the nervous system. I am also interested in yogic philosophy particularly relating the ancient teachings to modern day themes and the everday emotional challenges that touch us all at some point in our lives. Primarily I aim for my classes to be friendly, open and accessible to all - quite simply I want you to leave the room feeling better than you did when you came in!

Today marks Ostara, the spring equinox, a moment of perfect balance between light and dark.

Seeds begin to stir, life starts to return, and the natural world leans gently towards growth, fertility, and renewal 🥚🐇🌱.

This feels like a far better time to set intentions than January 1st. At the start of the year, goals can feel forced, shaped by expectation, marketing noise, and the pressure of what we think we should do. It’s no surprise so many of those intentions fade by February.

But now? Now the energy is different.

There’s something more instinctive, more heart-led about what wants to emerge. The ideas, desires, and plans that come up at this time tend to have deeper roots - roots that can carry them through the summer months.

So what is stirring within you, wanting to be brought to life?

We are always working hard through social media, newsletters and in person to describe the true magic of our weekend retreats, to try and give people an idea of what they're signing up for. It's challenging to put such an experience into words. This wonderful testimonial from a previous attendee does it very eloquently. 🥰❤️🧘

This week in class we’ve been exploring Saucha. Saucha is one of the Niyamas – the practices that guide how we relate to ourselves. At its heart, Saucha means purity, cleanliness, or clarity.

On one level, this can relate to our external environment. As we move into spring, many of us naturally feel the urge to clear things out, dusting away the cobwebs, sorting through clutter, and refreshing our living spaces. This kind of seasonal tidying can absolutely be a practice of Saucha.

But Saucha also points to our inner landscape. It can mean cultivating clarity of mind, letting go of old emotions or habits, and creating space within ourselves. Just as the natural world prepares for a new season of growth, we can also clear what feels heavy or stagnant to make room for what’s emerging.

You might reflect on this during the week:

What job would I feel lighter for simply having done?

Which areas of my life might benefit from a refresh right now?

The action might be practical e.g. clearing a cupboard, organising a corner of your home. Or it might be more subtle: releasing an unhelpful habit, softening the way you speak to yourself, or letting go of something you’ve been carrying mentally or emotionally.

Saucha invites us to create space, inside and out.

In Wise, Wild and Well classes, we rarely offer hands-on adjustments. Over the years, and by listening closely to the women in class, we’ve learned that physical adjustments—even with the best intentions—don’t suit everyone.

Instead, we focus on:
💚 Visual demonstrations
💚 Thoughtful verbal cues
💚 Encouraging your own agency

Our aim is simple: to create a space where you feel safe to explore your body in your own way. You know your body best—we’re just here to guide and empower you.

💚 This International Women’s Day, I’m sharing something every woman deserves: one full hour of proper, uninterrupted relaxation.

We tend to think relaxation is something we should just be able to do. But it’s actually a skill, like anything else. The more we practise it, the easier it becomes.

Most of us move straight from doing… to collapsing into bed, with nothing in between. That middle space? That’s where the magic is. That’s where your nervous system gets to reset. A proper pause. A long exhale. A chance to recalibrate.

And yes, it feels wonderful (I think you’ll really enjoy this class). But it also has a ripple effect. When your nervous system feels safe and settled, everything else flows more easily. You think more clearly. You respond rather than snap. You sleep more deeply. Even the busy bits feel more manageable.

So carve out an hour. Pop your phone on silent. Let yourself properly switch off, reset and recharge.

Consider it your gentle reminder that relaxation isn’t indulgent — it’s essential. Essential for the clarity, compassion, leadership and quiet strength women bring into the world every single day. When you are nourished, the work you do — seen and unseen — becomes even more powerful.

And you absolutely deserve that support 💚.

This lovely one-hour relaxation session is free when you sign up to my newsletter.

Yesterday was World Book Day. On retreat there are many serene little nooks in nature or quiet cosy spots indoors to curl up with a good book. 📖 Our Devon retreat even has its own a cosy little library and one of our regular students has a favourite oak tree to read under. She says the thought of resting there with a good book keeps her going all year 😅

It feels like ages since my last Candlelit event in November. The months since have been full — and very wet 🌧. Yet quietly, the days are stretching again, and there’s a soft hint that the season is turning.

Tonight, I’d love to welcome you back for an evening of deep rest and gentle reset.
Through subtle movement, slow breathwork, and supported restorative poses, we’ll give the nervous system space to settle, restore energy, and ease tension. When we consciously rest, the body’s natural repair processes come alive — supporting balance, calm, and replenished energy.

What to expect:
* Gentle, mindful movement and quiet restorative poses to shift out of “doing mode.”
*Guided meditation to leave you grounded and ready for the weekend.

When & Where:
TONIGHT! Friday, 27 Feb | 19:30-21:00 | The Santosha Studio, Chippenham.
All kit is provided but feel free to bring your own mat, blanket or cosy socks.

It would be wonderful to gather again and simply rest together.
Book now to grab one of the last available spots. No experience required!

This week I want to share a story from Mindful Strength.

One of my students had really bad plantar fasciitis. So bad she could barely walk around the block. A medical professional told her she’d have it for life. Imagine carrying that around as the “truth” about your body. 😞

Luckily, she also heard a different story: things can get better, your tissues can adapt, you can rebuild your strength. 💪

With steady, careful practice and patience, she began to change.
Last week she walked 9 kilometres — and she was absolutely thrilled with her feet. So proud of them!

This isn’t just about walking further. It’s about changing the stories we tell ourselves:

“My knees are broken.”
“I’m not strong.”
“I’m too old to start.”
“It’s all downhill from here.”

Mindful Strength isn’t about pushing recklessly. It’s about small, steady steps, listening to your body, and staying curious about what it can do.

Progress often feels quiet and slow — but it adds up. And sometimes, it leads to walking 9 km when once you could barely manage a street.

Keep going.
Notice the stories you tell yourself — and question the ones that aren’t helping.
