Jo Kitts Yoga Private and public classes held in Chippenham, Marshfield and surrounding areas. Blending traditiona

I teach hatha yoga, the asana (movement) part of my classes tends to be slow(ish) moving and alignment focused. Classes can be challenging, stimulating, or soft and nurturing depending on the circumstances. A human biologist by training I take a pretty down to earth approach and I am particularly fascinated with the effects that the practices can have on our physiology in helping to maintain physical integrity, support the immune system and calm the nervous system. I am also interested in yogic philosophy particularly relating the ancient teachings to modern day themes and the everday emotional challenges that touch us all at some point in our lives. Primarily I aim for my classes to be friendly, open and accessible to all - quite simply I want you to leave the room feeling better than you did when you came in!

Today is Imbolc — that midway point between winter and the spring equinox, and the beginning of the promise of spring 🌱

You might be noticing it already: little drops of sunlight peeking through, birds becoming more vocal, subtle signs that things are starting to shift. That sense of change has been reflected in our community classes this week, where we’ve gently brought a little more heat into the practice.

Not time to go mad just yet though. We’re still keeping things steady, with plenty of rest, and a warming solar breath practice that felt really supportive and nourishing.

A lovely moment to notice what’s quietly stirring 🥰

A huge thank you to She Can Be Active Chippenham for their sponsorship, and to the five wonderful women who joined me for my Yoga Through Menopause course this month 💛
I absolutely loved teaching this course, and it’s been really heartening to read your kind comments and reflections. Supporting women through this stage of life with practical, gentle yoga and shared experience feels especially meaningful.
If menopause (or perimenopause) is something you’re navigating and you’d value a small, supportive space to move, breathe and learn, I’d love to run this course again later in the year. Do let me know in the comments if you’d be interested — I’m happy to explore different times, and possibly even a weekend option.

The in-person classes are now fully booked, but this is the last call for the online Mindful Strength course, which starts tomorrow — Monday 26th January.

If you can’t make the live sessions, no problem — all classes are recorded, so you can practise in your own time and still follow the programme fully.

If you’re ready to feel stronger over the next couple of months, this course will support you step by step. With consistent practice, you will notice changes — in how you move, how you feel, and how confident you are in your body.

This is a calm, supportive way to build strength that really lasts.

A lot of women feel put off strength training because they’re worried about getting injured, or they simply don’t know where to start.

In Mindful Strength, we slow everything right down and break each movement into manageable steps, so you can feel confident that you’re moving with good, safe form.

This is just a small example — a short tutorial on the bicep curl — showing how we take the time to explain the lift, what to focus on, and how to make it work for your body.

When you understand what you’re doing and why, strength training feels far less intimidating — and much more empowering.

Our community class theme this term is Rooted and Rested.
This week we’re focusing on finding peace & hope in the season we’re in. Even when the world feels unsettled, the practise is about noticing what helps us feel steady and calm on the inside.

I started running the online Mindful Strength courses a little later than the in-person ones, and honestly, they’ve been brilliant.

They come with so many advantages — but one of the biggest is how supportive they are if you feel even slightly self-conscious about strength training. You can be in your own space, move at your own pace, and take the pressure off while you find your feet.

For many people, that makes getting started feel not just possible, but comfortable.

If you’ve been holding back because you don’t feel confident, don’t know what to expect, or just want a gentler way in, the online classes can be a really good place to begin.

Live sessions run Mondays 6-7pm (starting January 24th). Recordings are also available so that you can watch on your own schedule.

I started the online Mindful Strength a little later than the in-person classes, due to popular demand — and I have to say, it works brilliantly 🙌.

It turns out there are so many advantages to taking your strength journey online.

Accessibility & consistency
No travel, no gym intimidation, no weather barriers. This makes it much easier to stay consistent — and consistency is what brings results.

Safe, guided strength training
Live instruction means helpful technique cues, sensible pacing, and clear options. You’re always welcome to ask questions during or after class.

Comfort & confidence at home
Training in your own space removes comparison and self-consciousness. You can start where you are and build strength at your own pace.

Age-appropriate programming
Classes are designed specifically for women 40+, taking menopause, joint changes, fluctuating energy, and recovery into account — not generic fitness trends.

Community without overwhelm
Our small Zoom community offers real connection and accountability, without the noise or sensory overload of gym environments.

Fits real life
Short, effective sessions fit around busy schedules, making strength training realistic and sustainable alongside work, family, and rest.

If you’d like to join Mindful Strength for the first time — or you’re returning for a fresh new programme — the next course starts 24 January 2026. I'd love for you to join us https://www.jokittsyoga.com/mindful-strength.html
