Introducing Agnes 🧡

She came in her own sweet time at 42 weeks.
Born at home in a pool, 9pounds 2 on the 23.11.23.

This time I am totally respecting the rules of postpartum and am firmly on the sofa, prioritising rest, sleep and nutrition, although I can’t totally hide because it’s December 🙄 so I am briefly leaving my nest for various nativities, and carol concerts! 😂

Last week I had the pleasure of having a chat with the wonderful Gemma@littledreamsbathandswindon to remind me on all things to do with newborn sleep…

She reminded me that newborns can only stay awake for 60 minutes in that first 6 weeks of their life! Ah, to be a baby! It’s something I really am going to consider especially with this little lady having so many siblings!

She has sent me these slides which I thought might be useful to anyone right now, and if you do have any sleep concerns, then I can highly recommend Gemma ✨

We’ve got some big news to share! 🙌🏻

Emma and I have taken a big step, and have set up a joint brand.
Introducing, 🥁 drum roll please!… ‘The Mothership Physio (aka TMP)!
Fed up with boring pelvic floor exercises and the internet filled with misinformation, we have created an online postnatal programme for all types of delivery and for every type of birth, empowering mums with evidence- based pelvic health information.

Over the last 4 years, over 250 women have trusted our guidance, and have been in 'Mum and Bub Online’, but the time has come to say goodbye to the Facebook programme, and hello to the new sleek, and shiny, (and oh so, much easier to use!) online platform.

Come follow us… https://www.the-mothership-physio.com, and please tell all of your mum friends, we want to help all mums take ownership of their postnatal journey.

Wish us luck as we move forward!
Emma and Claire,
The Mothership Physio

When was the last time you did something for you?

Self-care is an essential part of your postpartum journey and often goes by the wayside when you're focused on taking care of your new baby, and family.

My diary is looking fairly full at present but I do have a few spaces before the summer holidays. This might be your opportunity to have a post partum assessment, and figure out how best you can help your body can recover from your birth…

Post partum MOTs, pelvic health appointments, and pilates training / classes can all booked via the website, and the online programme is in full swing for the summer.

Do let us know whether we can motivate and inspire you to exercise regularly via that! It’s the ultimate self care programme and will set you up for anything that motherhood throws at you! 💪🏻

Yesterday, I gave a seminar to the Physiotherapy Masters students over .

I discussed how 1/4 of women will experience pelvic floor dysfunction after having a baby regardless of how they delivered, yep, a C-section doesn’t necessarily protect your pelvic floor (it's still loaded for 9 months, plus there are lots of hormonal changes to the area.)

New research suggests that almost 50 of women with pelvic floor symptoms will stop exercise. I believe there are so many barriers for women in sports already, and that the pelvic floor shouldn’t be another one. Mums deserve much more, and pelvic health affects so many people out there, if I can help upskill these graduates, then hopefully we can work together to keep women in sport, and allow them access to get the treatment, they rightly deserve.

Returning home from Cornwall with a belly full of ice cream, cream teas, pasties and….. a baby!

Excited to announce that we are expecting a baby in November. ✨ and whilst this is exciting news for my family, I also want to acknowledge how difficult announcements like this can be for my clients and friends going through fertility issues. I do not want to appear smug with this announcement and am sending love to everyone trying to navigate their journey into parenthood however it looks. Life can be unfair sometimes.

Feeling physically fine at the moment - so it's business as usual!

Pilates classes restart tomorrow, there are a few spaces left in both classes.

Physiotherapy clinics look fairly full for June, and in a bid to try and accommodate everyone before the chaos of the summer holidays, I'm now working extra Thursdays in Corsham, and to help everyone continue exercising during the business of the summer season, we have a very exciting deal coming soon for the online exercise programme... Stay tuned!

Busy but magical times ahead!

About me....

Hi, I’m Claire, and I run FITZ AND PHYSIO. I’ve got a passion for Pelvic Health physiotherapy, which means I specialise in all things connected to the pelvis and in particular ante and post-natal women. I love getting people reconnecting with their bodies and getting the best out of them. I have clinical expertise in treating all conditions related to the pelvic floor including coccydynia, prolapse, overactive bladder, incontinence, re**us diastasis, as well as complicated pelvic pain. I’m a mum to two very heavy boys and I understand firsthand the challenges that motherhood and pregnancy can bring. I’ve worked for the NHS, Bupa and for the APPI, which is one of the world's leading Pilates institutions. Whilst working for the APPI, I rehabilitated the injuries of high-level athletes including swimming teams, netball players and ballet dancers and delivered a whole range of reformer and mat-based classes. It was here that I developed a love of movement and saw first hand the benefits that strong and a stable pelvis brings to sports performance as well as being essential for pregnancy and new mums. I draw upon my experience of Pilates and musculoskeletal physiotherapy to look at every individual holistically and apply my pilates knowledge when rehabilitating the pelvic floor. I use a lot of manual therapy (hands-on treatment) and acupuncture skills to help with pain relief. I am enthusiastic about getting people back to what they love doing, and pride myself in making exercise enjoyable and accessible for all, and will work tirelessly to ensure you meet your goals – whatever they may be! Although specialising in Pelvic Health, I maintain an ability to assess all types of pain and sports injuries. I’ve recently relocated from London to the Bath area, I work for the NHS two days a week and run Fitz & PHYSIO the rest of the week. Professional Registrations: Registered with Health and Care Professions Council - (HCPC) Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) Member of the Pelvic, Obstetric & Gynaecological Physiotherapy Professional group (POGP) Pilates Instructor with the APPI
